okay first question.....how do get a snake to let go after he tags you?
I had my macklotts tag me and would not let go... I would hate for princess to do that.
okay for the real story on the hand cuffs.
My macklotts python tagged my left hand and started to constrict it.
I was calm but sreaming ow ow ow owow
I decided to wait for him to let go......but after my hand started oozing blood and started to turn purple...I decided to take him off.
I used my right hand to take him off....when he was almost to the point of being off I decided to work on his teeth. while I was holding his head with my right and his teeth in my left....he wrapped around my right hand as well.
Guess what...... I was now handcuffed to a d@mn snake. I was thinking..If this were a big snake...I would never be able to call 911.
just a story for you handcuff lovers and handcuff users

even the forums I moderate...I can't edit my own posts....
not even if I wrote the thread themselves.
also...I read you spray with vinegar to get a snake off. Is that true?

Never tried vinegar. When we used to go to schools we used to take a few cotton balls and some rubbing alchohol. You just get it close to they're nostrils and they tend to let go. Oh and smelling salts are always good for the teacher who passes out. Although the students usually would rather you just leave him sprawled out on the floor. One word, AlcoGel. It's the stuff you use to disinfect your hands and alot of herp shops usually carry it for that reason. Out here, the shop I goto uses it for that and to get snakes off their hands. When the snake bites, put a little on their head/face.. supposedly it stings their eyes but has never hurt any snakes and they have used them method for years. It has alcohol in it so it seems to work well.

I also have heard using alcohol, but is there anything else? While I extremely doubt Ted will ever bite me, you just never know. I've a buddy at work who has a phobia about snakes (bad experience when he was a kid) that told me that alcohol-alcohol [rum, Captain Morgan's of course, gin, vodka, whatever] works as well. Says it would get absorbed through the skin and the snake gets immediately drunk. He was told this by someone in a pet store or some such. This I tend to disbelieve since skin by it's very nature is designed to repel moisture. Well, except worms or something like that, then I could believe it.
Comments, comments? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Really cold water works sometimes. Of course this could cause more problems at the same time. You will not absorb alchohol (rum) through the skin. If you did I could never be a DD cause all the drunks keep dumping alchohol on me. You gotta love em.

Hey Ritchie, JustMe uses lemon juice when Murray takes a bite out of her...I believe she said that she will rub some onto her hands before handling him, so when (if) he bites, he lets go real fast....good luck!!!

Any pungent substance will sometimes cause a snake to release. Personally i've never had to use any on snakes. I've read that methyl alcohol (the drinking kind) works very well and is far less likely to cause any problems in your snake as isopropyl alcohol (rubbing) might. I'm sure that ammonia would work as well, but i would certainly advice against it. Once again the long term affects on an animal with such a sensitive vomeronasal system can't be measured. I suppose to a degree that it could be likened to a huge disorienting flash of light to a primates eyes. In some instances this could cause temporary or even permanent blindness, so i would use this analogy when considering the more caustic chemicals like ammonia or isopropyl.
I have used vinegar for a 3 ft sav monitor that latched onto my arm and was rolling like an evil vice grip intent on removing as much flesh as possible, and causing great amounts of pain in the process. I ran to my friend's kitchen and grabbed a bottle of vinegar, with monitor hanging from my arm i twisted the top off and, plop. The monitor immediatley let go the moment the top came off. Now, considering that most, if not all snakes, are much more chemo-sensitive than your average , everyday varanid, i would keep some vinegar lying around at all times......of course there's nothing wrong with having a bottle of Irish whiuskey[sic] lying around the house either.
