computer problem. Help!
For some reason, my computer doesn't allow me to get on the internet. (I'm using a computer somewhere else now.) This just happened tonight. I got home, turned on the comp, opened up interenet explorer and it says that no connection to the interent is available. my computer is in a network with two others and i have cable. This happened before (twice) and both times it was fixed with a system restore. This time, I tried three system restores, each at a different date and nothing happened. I pulled up the network options window and clicked "fix network connection" or something and it said the ip adress could not be re-newed. As many of you know, I don't know a lot about fixing or the workings of computers and I'm stuck now. Anybody know what i can do? BTW, all bills are payed so we can rule that out  .

Check all the cables(Im sure you have already done it, but just in case) and do all of yours have set IP adresses, or do they just pick one up automatically from the server? If they do you need to check it and make sure it is correct.

All cables checked, it says that the network is connected in the status screen. How do I find out if they have set IP adresses and how do I know if they are correct? If this is the problem, why is it only starting to bother me now?

last time I had this problem I had to buy a new NIC. Try swaping one that you know works and see if that fixes it.

err... how do i uhh.. check it? I mean where is it in the cpu and what does it look like?
Edit - and how will I know if something is wrong with it?

It is the part that the cable connects to. Unless it is a onboard then just put one in and connect the cable to it. If it connects then it is bad that would be the only way of testing it unless you paid $1500 for a meter.

Make sure you disconnect the power and then touch the metal of the case when you go to pull it out.

I just checked and the cable goes directly into the back of the computer. So i guess that measn it is on-board. What do I do now? The cable looks like a phone chord/jack except it is cable-ized or something like that... The other end of the cable goes into a router and the router has three computer cables in it along with one that connects it to the cable modem.

To check IP right click on My Network Places..properties, scroll down the cofiguration page to where it says TCP/IP...click on this, then click properties. It should bring up a page with some numbers. An example..... 10.40.232.210.

go to start then run. In the box type cmd And then press enter
When the black box comes up type ipconfig/release
