few questions, see on this site
before i came here and really started wanting more snakes I have never seen the 1.1 1.2 2.1 numbers you post, so i was wondering what they are.
when you feed with f/t rats, how do we thaw them and get them to a temp that the snake will want to eat it, and the best place to buy in bulf being that i am buying a JCP to go along with my BP
if we buy snakes at petstores and they are in the same tank, would they be ok to grow in the same tank, or do petstores do it to save room, mixxing them late in life im sure is not good, as i have been told here.
I have learned about taking them out to feed, and best ways to assist in shedding. Everyone is such a big help here, Im glad i stumbled upon it. I may not be an expert on anything, but happy to help with what i know

the 1.1, 1.3 numbers you see indicate males to females. ex 2.3 = 2 males, 3 females. if there's an extra number at the end say....1.2.1, the 3rd number means the sex is unknown.
As far as f/t rats, throw a rat in a ziplock bag, and throw the bag into warm tap water.. do not use boiling water or the rat will cook. Leave it to thaw for about 30 to about 45 mins checking periodically until the head of the rat feels warm and there are no cool spots anywhere on the prey item, just make sure that the size of the rat equals the girth of the snake at the widest part...you can actually buy them anywhere online....check out the ad rtb.net has called rodentpro.com they got some good prices there.
and lastly..as far as pet stores putting snakes in the same cage...thats a big NO NO. pet stores are ignorant to what a snake needs. Every snake breed has different requirements, ie temps, husbandry (sp) humidity..etc. They do it to prolly just save space and tanks. Notice how they'll separate hamsters but not snakes.
If you plan on getting a snake from a pet store, becareful of where you go, you dont want to run into the risk of getting a snake that has RI or mites, that can spread easily to your other babies...
hope this helps/ =)

1. The numbers identify the sex of whatever herp you are talking about. 1.2.3 means 1 male, 2 females, and 3 unsexed.
2. Thaw out rats by putting them in a plastic bag then placing it in warm water for a while. Feel head of rat. If it is warm, the rat is ready to go. I find the best place to buy frozen rodents is at reptile shows. However you can get them online at rodentpro.com
3. mixing snakes and putting them in the same enclosure is not a good idea. Pet stores do it to save money and space.
Hope this helps

1.2.4=1 male.2 female.4 sex unknown
run warm water over the rats till they are completely thawed and slightly warm. The brain is the last thing to thaw so gently squeze the rats head and feel for coolness. If it's cool, put it back and let it warm/thaw some more.
There are several online rodent suppliers. www.rodentpro.com is fairly popular but they don't vacuum seal and the ziplocks are usually busted by the time they get to you so you have to repack everything.
Avoid petstore advice period and certainly ever copy what you see them do.

If you do decide to get a new snake (regardless if it is from a pet storeor any other source)... make sure to follow strict quarantine procedures for 3-6 months to ensure that your ball python remains healthy and does not contract anything from the newbie. Most people will even keep the new animal in a completely different room for the quarantine period.
