You cant just decide to breed/sell snakes without loving the hobby first. If you love snakes a whole lot than get yourself many 1.1 breeding pairs and start breeding. It takes a lot of time and effort and the money is always a big factor when dealing with a lot of snakes.
Read, Read, Read and Read some more is the only advice I can give you. Find out what snakes interest you and best fit your needs such as space, maintenance, and the well being of the snakes.
My list of breeding stock consist of the following:
~ Boas
1.1 Brazilian Rainbow Boas
0.1 dumerils Boa
~ Pythons
1.1 Irian Jaya Carpet Python
1.1 Ball Python
1.1 Children's Python
0.1 Borneo Shorttail Python
~ Colubrid
1.1 Apricot Pueblan Milksnakes
1.1 Western Hognose
1.1 Mexican Black Kingsnakes
1.1 Okeetee Cornsnakes
Some of the pairs i have and some i'm still after but I picked all my snakes based on how much money i will need to put in them such as prey size, tank size, and how well the babies will sell. I read non stop and ask questions to anything i need/want to know. Do not get started in the breeding/trade of snkes without learning your share

I would suggest starting out with some really premium specimens, ie... very well marked for the standard, or unuausal color morphs. I would recommend starting out a bit small and slow prehaps just a couple of pairs and build up "steam" from there as oppossed to going all out. I would suggets that you choose your stock wisely. For example... A Reticulate Python gets huge, not to mention eats a lot and it can have littlers of 40-60 neonates. A Brizilian Rainbow Boa on the other hand will stay relatively small at about 8 ft and will have smaller littlers of 5-10 neonates on average in my experience. Reticulates, Burmese, Common Boas, and ho-hum Red Tails are more than plentiful in the market place but something such as Brazilians and Blood Pythons are not so common and as such usually bring a higher price and better profit margin. As such I think one is best targeting a niche market thats a little less brutally competitive as opposed to competing in markets already saturated and you may find it difficult to break into those market and be competitive.
Additionally, this is a buisness thats takes some time to break into. Its going to take a while and some capital to get set up, and to get some viable littlers of neonates to sell. As mentioned else where read, study and research to no end. There is a big difference in husbandry skills required for keeping live stock alive and healthy and breeding/rearing live stock. Its not something that will make you big stupid dollars right from the start. If you got the time, the patients, the money, then by all means go for it. Just some aspects of it to think about, if you havent already...
I have gotten a few nice littlers from my Brazilians and its a great feeling and it has subsidized my habit (I mean hobby). Good luck and I hope things work out for you.

Just remember that most of the time, breeders are in it for the love of the animals, not the money. By the time you pay for caging, heating, feeding, medical bills, etc, you're lucky if you break even.

A few things about selling animals:
1. you need money
2. you need money
3. buy some breeding pairs
4. you need to first be successful at breeding
5. the first 5 years of successful breeding will partly pay for what you have already put into your snakes
6. sell the babies, not that easy
7. you have to FEED and HOUSE those babies until they do sell
last but not least:
8. just don't do it, it takes a long time to even get your first clutch and you need a lot of time and MONEY

on top of the money issue..research is a key thing. you're going to need to be prepared to take care of these babies until you are able to sell em. Set aside cash too that will solely be for snake purposes. Don't have the cash to do it? then don't breed.
jumping in head first is going to hurt in the long run. Its hard work to do. A lot of the well known breeders have been doing this stuff for years and they have the snakes and bragging rights to prove it.
do the research other than asking questions here. read up in books, ask local breeders who've been in the business for a long time then concider the pro's and con's of breeding.
I know im going to breed my babies in the future, heck im barely got my foot in the door, but i need more resources and bigger snakes for that fact to even start.
but if you do decide to breed...good luck.

If you really love animals you woldnt breed any more, there are too many in need of homes as it is, you only perpetuate the problem
just my 2 cents

well, you can either go high end or volume, but either isnt much fun if you are just in it for the money, snakes are like commodities in that they CAN be unpredictable... but you can enjoy snakes a lot more than stocks
you could get some corns or colubrids and try to breed volume and get a nice colony going, or try to breed some high end or color morph snakes, ball pythons, etc... - but you can easily end up with $10,000 in snakes you cant breed, or someone else does sooner and your stock just plumetted in its net worth.
I would suggest find some snakes you enjoy, and learn about them and breed them, see how it goes and dont get to crazy into the investment end of things.
I like colubrids myself, so hognose are reasonable right now and trendy, but if you just want to produce some snakes to get breeding under your belts you cant really lose with cornsnakes, inexpense, nice, color morphs, good feeders once they start feeding.
Its sounds cheasy but if you enjoy it, you are more likely to do well financially- but that isnt a gaurantee. I would say 1 in 10 herpers that go into breeding profit from it. There are so many overheard issues, feeding, enclosures, shipping, losses in shipping, customer care.
Anyways, I am just babbling now.
Just some advice from someone that has been there... its so easy to get hooked and the animals are so cool- enjoy.
