Amazon in peril

What does everyone think about the camisea pipeline project in peru?

Does anyone keep up with the goings on of the petro-chemical industry in central and south american rain forests?

Just curious.

Not to get too political, but with the way things are going lately, I think the Amazon has few supporters who are not environmentalists. Seems the big push is to lower fuel prices to make the majority of people content. Whats a few un known and undiscovered species lost forever. We have more fuel now.

whats most disturbing is that most write this off as acceptable.

we are the consumers, we dictate how the market moves, if we dont like something, we should choose not to buy it.

find out who their investors are, boycott products or services that they provide until they stop funding for such projects.

we all want things to change, yet nobody seems to be willing to do anything to discourage the powers that be from these things.

Oh, Dont worry about getting too political Ed...

Its never a bad thing to be aware of whats going on that we are "susposed' to have control over.

The reason I bring this up here, is that most herpers are more in touch with the natural world and are more sympathetic to the plights of habitats that are under some type of siege, be it corporate, climatic, or policital.

we shouldnt be afraid to share our thoughts on it.

Here is a good link about this project.

There are certain groups fighting it, and they could use any support that anyone can provide.

Actually I did boycot gas for a year, Walked and biked to work and the stores. Not only is it good on the enviroment, It is also good on the body. I do hate how high gas prices are, But with the way things are going, we wont see any relief any time soon. It is more about monies than it is petrol right now. I for one am now on a 3 season gas boycot due to heat in the summer, and even then I will not go anywhere else other than work and home. I say anyone that wants to see a change, stop whineing and start doing.

(P.S. My piccies from my trip to the mountains are gonna be in tommarow, I will post on the topic later)
