Doom3 anyone?
Heh I just got the game the other night and all I can say is WOW!
Check out the screenshots:

Anyway I give the game a 9 out of 10. Online play is really nice to. When the dedicated server comes out I will run a few servers for us all to enjoy!!

I've found it surprisingly un-demanding in the video card stakes. I run it at 1024x768 with detail set to Ultra and it runs flawlessly and looks incredible. My specs are:
Athlon XP3000+
728MB RAM
GeForce 4 TI4600 128MB
It's a really atmospheric game and the graphics are a sigh to see.

FYI,
The game will run on older hardware, but video is what makes this game. I would suggest atleast a 128Meg video card.
Here are my specs:
Athlon 64 3000+
1Gig DDR400 Ram
ATI X800 Pro (256Meg)
As you can see my setup is pretty crazy. The x800 Pro is probally the fastest video card you can get on the market. With this setup I can run the game easily at 1280x1024 with all settings turned up all the way.
My friend on the other hand has a GeForce Ti4800 128Meg card with a Athlon XP 2500. The game runs pretty good at 1024x768 and runs really well at 800x600.

I know this is off subject, but just wanted to know what you opinion on what processor is better...Athlon or Pentium. I have heard that pentiums last longer.

That is one for debate CC.... I like my Pentiums but it looks like the Athlon is what is preferred by the more avid gamers.

The BFG is later on in the game, but it is there. It's pretty much the same as the Quake 2 BFG in appearance, only better if that makes any sense? If anybody is thinking about a video card upgrade for playing this game then the GeForce 6800 Ultra is THE card to have. It's been designed with DOOM 3 in mind and scores better than any other card on the market. It also runs other games pretty well too

I run AMD 1.2 (Firebird)
128 ATI 9600
768 megs of ram
But UT is my hunting grounds
(ONe would think with such a slow processor not overclocked it would be low in the power, but I do pull up 50 fps easy)
FYI, I feel that ATI does better in the course of running high end graphics apps (such as adobe) An ATI vid on a P4 is the makeings of an extreamly stable system, The AMD is more bang for the buck, most can take overclocking easy with little to no problems and are rght on par with the pentium chips (Their technology is a little slower but they are my first choice in building because of the fact mentioned above) P4vs ATI and g-force vs AMD , If you want gameing go for An ATI with g-force, If you want a stable and far surpassed PC go for P4 with ATI, Thats my 2 cents

I have the GeForce 6800 Ultra and i've seen a few problems every now and again playing Halo or Knights of the Old Republic. the movement is a bit choppy or not as seamless as i think it should be. or maybe i'm just crazy.
my pc is:
AMD3000
1 GB ram
Geforce 6800 Ultra (256MB)
hey dragon-keeper: yea Diablo 2 is awsome. i haven't done any multiplayer games, but the single player quest is great.
hmm...did i say 6800Ultra...make that 5800Ultra. i didn't know they came out with a new card already.

Yeah we could debate about this all night hehe.
If your asking about processor then I say go with AMD....if you got a little extra cash go Athlon 64,
Video cards I would personally go with ATI mainly because from my experience they last longer. Who knows, maybe I just got unlucky...but I ended up replacing my GeForce 4 Ti4800 3 times before I said screw it and went with ATI. I have stuck with ATI ever since.
And yes its true the Nvidia's are a little faster with Doom3 right now, but thats like 2-3fps more. Image quality has actually shown to be better on the ATI side with Doom3.
Anyway go with what your budget can afford. Both cards (6800 and x800) should be fine in Doom 3.
P.S: ATI released Beta Video Drivers specifically for Doom3 that closed the gap on performance. With the new drivers (although beta) the card is faster then the Nvidia.

It was just my views to try to disrupt any fight in the future, I am not for or against any one of them processor or vid card, it is just that some people get VERY uptight when it comes to talking bout their parts (I get into it almost every night at Wal-mart) Not trying to start anything, just throwing down some facts, If I did much gameing I would be on G-Force in a heartbeat, but untill that day returns I will stick with my ATI (I love haveing my TV card neways )

definately go w/ a 64 bit AMD anything less would be, just really stupid. Even though you have to wait for Windows XP 64 to actually run at 64 bit.
