They're doing it again
I just got back from the movie theater where I saw a preview for Anacondas, (the sequel to Anaconda), here come more misconceptions and bad images for snakes.

its so gay. it gives the herp wourld such a bad name, and thats why people always ask me if my boa will eat them. (stupid pythons vs boa movie!!!!! )
when andacondas first came out, it was my favorite movie of all time. i was still a kid, and loved snakes to death. i would go catch snakes in the woods everyday. and i always thought it would be cool to have a 100 foot snake (boy was i wrong. lol)
but now that im older, i hate the movie, it gives us herpers such a bad name. :'(

Misconceptions are everywhere Summa get used it. Everyone will have there own opinion about anything no matter if they make a very expensive exaggerated movie and stick a JLO in there just to make the movie a bit more interesting. I don't think the movie was meant to make a bad name for snakes, but honestly, who really wants to see a normal sized anaconda terrorize anybody? .. Hollywood is there for a reason, and thats to exaggerate any kind of animal which people thought to be terrible from the beginning so they could scare some of us. Thats just how it works. In my opinion, I doubt anybody spent 1 million something dollars to make a bad name for snakes. Its an idea..thats about it, how many movies can you think of which portray a very large insect, animal or reptile? There is alot of them. Nobody wants to see a 100 ft rabbit eat people like carrots or a giant cute kitten meowing people to death. Get with it man, its just a movie, an idea. I doubt anybody considers hollywood movies as "gospel" and the idea of a misconception would be aborsbed in the brain of somebody simple minded.

Oh and by the way Shuba, I understand exactly where your coming from, I just hate it when people are ignorant and believe it all. I work in the reptile house at the Indianpolis Zoo and I am constantly getting the same questions that stem from misconceptions.

how does the movie "anaconda" give herpers a bad name?
It had nothing to do with herpers... now the guy "looking" for the snake was some type of poacher, or trophy hunter from what I gathered.
I dont know about the sequel.... but the first one didnt have any type of reflection on people who kept snakes as pets, or people who looked for snakes/wildlife out of pure enjoyment.
Anyone who tells snakes to "go on back to your mother" doesnt strike me as knowing a whole lot about herps.

How cheesy, nope not interested in seeing it. Its true though people do have the misconception of snake due to all these movies and on the way snakes are portrayed. I got bit by my 12 foot reticulate python this week after I fed her, and it was totally my fault I was'nt careful and she nipped me, thank god she let me go right away, but after going to work and people seeing the bite, coworkers of mine were like "Well did you kill the snake, or did you get rid of it". People are quick to make judgements. But what kind of person would I be if I got rid of it.

yeah, i saw a preview for that yesterday... in the beginning of the preview it says they're in Borneo. -Um, isn't Borneo on the wrong side of the world if they're being stalked by an anaconda?

didnt you get the memo?
If your from hollywood, all logic and accuracy is irrelevant.
It doesnt make for good entertainment.
