tired

i am sick and tired off people trying to tell me that snakes are dangerous....

i just got in an arguement about how snakes are harmless......he tried telling me that a snake is more dangerous than a pit bull.

There was a thing on tv about a pit bull killing a baby and i said that snakes are safer to have than a pit bull because a snake wont kill a baby (being a typical snake, i.e red tail, BP, etc.) and he tried telling me that a snake almost killed a guy he knew that was cleaning the inside of the glass on the inside of the tank and the snake started wrapping around him. I tried telling him that a snake will not mess try to kill something that is bigger than him. i also told him that if you put a rat that is too big than the snake the snake will try to get away from it. i told him that snakes do bite but only in self defence and they just bite and let go....

in final.....i repeat that im tired of people watching movies like anaconda and stuff like that and them thinking that all snakes eat humans. he said that my 6 foot new guinea carpet could kill a baby.....and i told him that it wouldn't and he just kept argueing..

i have 5 snakes and i dont consider myself an expert but i do know more about snakes than someone who doesn't have any and bases his "facts" (more like opinions) on what has heard and seen on tv......

arggggggg

A poodle COULD kill a baby, but then again, so could someone dropping it while it was being held. There really is no way to talk to some people PP. Their irrational fear has a tighter grip than any snake could possibly have. The harder you argue, the more they feel the need to justify their fear.
I find its best just to tell them you don't want to continue the discussion with them.

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't encountered such idiotic people. Just about everyone that I have told I have snakes or shown them to them told me it was cool that I had snakes. There has been a few people that thought it was wierd or frowned upon it, but nothing big.

in my opinion...(note i said my opinion) snakes are dangerous to those who don't know jack about what they're doing and end up getting bitten. AND there are snakes that [b]are]/b] dangerous..ie hots, which is a given.

Let the dude complain about it and if he's so set on thinking that a cp could kill a baby, then let him think that, no point in changing someone's mind who's so narrow-minded and ignorant to the fact why we love snakes so much and that we understand these animals more. If he's so persistant on his views and won't leave it alone...tell him too bad, if you don't like it then don't talk to me because the conversation is done and over with....or if you have to tell him to screw off. that usually works..lol

is this just a thing in countries that have dangerous snakes living as native species?
Over here in the uk, where we just have a couple of relatively none threatening types, I'd say people seem to have a more curious attitude about us keeping them as pets.
I'd imagine that places hosting native venomous species would have a human population less sympathetic to the animals we take an interest in.

Don't get complacent. A snake will always remain a creature of instincts and yes, a pet snake can kill a baby. Regardless of how tame the snake is, it has the capacity and given certain situations, the instinct to do so.

I have a six footer here, I handle him often, but there is no way on earth I would let my 10 year old daughter near him alone. If he decided to wrap her neck, there is nothing she could do. It takes all my strength to peel him off me when he wants to stay.

Tame animals are safe when handled the right way, but never think for a moment that you can trust them in all situations.
