New addition!!!

Hey guys.. today i went up in nothern maine with my friend and man it was fun stuff! [img]modules/Forum/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img]
Way out in the middle of new where = good herping grounds!!
We found 4 newts/salamanders 2 of them we didnt catch they were to fast and we caguht 2 ..
one got away somehow tho.. but one is happily home with me
he is grey with a blueish hue and a red stripe running down his back
i can seem to find any sites that can help me idefiy it sooo
can ya help me here? its about 4 inches long.
Right now i am keeping him in a rubbermaid i had handy with bed a beast substrate w/ some leaves,moss, and rocks to hide in and i have him moist..
in a kool place (65-75F) i know sally/newts like it cool temps soo he isnt in a warm spot.
hes very cute!! tomorrow i am gunna go get some flightless fruitflys and some other supplys and a better cage and stuff..
Could anyone tell me exactly how i should care for him.
7 herps and counting.. it was purfect day for newts.. not for snakes soo
we found no reptiles saddly but i am happy with the catch,
we also found a egg of some sort!!
its about 1 inch long and white.. its obviously empty and cracked a bit but..
still it looks like a garter snake egg.

Sounds like you had fun. Hope he lives and he does great. Some times wild newts dont do good in captivity. But some do! I hope you have a great time with him. Hes a pretty thing! Get some better pics and keep everyone updated!

well i got him identified.. he's a red back salamander
i coulent get the pic cuz i was using one hand to take the pick and the other to hold him and he kept running off and then my camra battery went dead lol

Yeah hes kool. Try to get some more pics soon! I have heard of Red Backed Sallies. Never seen one though. Sounds kool! Keep us updated on his health and stuff. Tell us when you get him a better cage and when he eats and all!
