It's really not smart. They stress very easily and will usually not eat well in captivity. The stress alone can kill it. Best thing is if it's hurt, call the wildlife rescue/rehab in your area, and if it's not hurt, take it back where you found it.

Like HC said. THey stress very easy and thier survival rate drops considerably when taken into captivity. Besides, in most states it is illegal to keep or possess a wild bird without a permit. I think the only birds that are not protected are starlins pigeons and common house sparrow(I think). Not only the legality issues but wild birds are usually loaded with lice and parasites.

It depends on what kind of bird. If you find a Quail or a Pheasant etc... in season, you have a valid hunting license and you wish to eat the bird, by all means, keep it.
