Well some of the information was dated referencing material from 89. So it should ba fairly recent. From everything I have ever heard that all sounds pretty correct.

One thing that comes to mind though... Is it really THAT easy to get bit by a Gila? I mean it's not like a snake with an incredible strike range and rate of speed. It would appear that you would really have to try to get bit by one. I could be very wrong. I see it as similar to being bit by a monitor. It does happen but not to easy to do.

well I have a tiny lizard that is very quick---tiny guy---but he's pretty quick with the bites. Little troll attcks me all the time. I am not among the people who thinks it's cool to get bit. I have hemostats for feeding most of the lizards to try and prevent accidents.
The gila bite is supposed to be painful---and the symptoms non fatal---even though there are rumors to the contrary.
Being it was such an old article I was hoping for a anitV to have been made by now....I have FOUND Brian Dempsey and I await his reply....he's the president of the Long Island Herp Society.
I know he will shed more light on it. I went to the kingsnake forum to see if I could find him and guess what? My account has been closed. It seems that placing a link to my herp photos (which I have been doing since I opened the group)where I basically advertise for RTB is a nono.
I guess I'm repressing all the sadness .....maybe I'll cry tomorrow

I'm definately considering a colony now. I am going to breed LOL
I spoke with my husband and he is totally supporting this.
It's not anytime soon however---I need to do alot of research----with books and people who care for and breed these guys. Also I plan on buying top color choices from Mark Seward when I am ready. They will be babies so I am literally starting from scratch. But this waiting and learning and raising is the whole thing for me.
What I am already grateful about is being in contact with such interesting people. I am thrilled to be learning from the best.
I haven't been this excited in a long time.
With all the animals I have been interested in---bought and cared for---I have never been interested in breeding anything. Until now.
Wish me luck---I have literally a long road ahead of me until all this happens
