my day (or "lightning crashes")
today, i was fixing to come home from work, and kerri called. she said lightning hit close by, and the phones were down, and for me to hurry home. i figured she just woke up and lightning kinda spooked her, and that it was no big deal. i shoulda known better, she unlike me, storms don't spook her. so i got home, and some of the electricity was out too. i got a friend of mine to come over, and we got the power back going. well, as things went on, we found out what happened. lighting struck the pecan tree between our house and the neighbors. it shot through the roots, knocking dirt up and went through a metal hoist he had leaned up against his shop. it destroyed several things in his shop. it blow the ballister off a shop light that wasn't even plugged up. it knocked all his power out and blew apart most of the light fixtures in his house. my friend got most of his power restored. i don't know what all of my neighbors was damaged. he is lucky, though. he was headed out to his shop when he had to go to the bathroom, where he was when it hit. talk about a timely poop. anyway, that damage at our house was minimal. it killed two televisions (one 2 months old), all the cordless phones, most of the phone lines, and the cord going from the modem to the pc. no people or animals were harmed (my poor dog was out back 20 feet from the tree, but he is ok with everthing). no damage to the house. pc and laptop are ok. i am bummed about the tv's, but at least it was the two least watched ones. (maybe haley won't take so long in the bathroom with no tv). but i do feel extremely, extremely, extremely lucky to have a house, wife, kid, and all the material crap that thankfully was not damaged. my dog has 8 lives left. what a day.
oh yeah, the new digital camera we ordered came in today.
and the other night, there were a bunch of police cars across the street. found out today a guy hit another guy in the throat, killing him, and is being "sought by police." no biggie.
