Near Dangerous Situation
It was an awesome day here in Chicago 80 almost no humidity, perfectly blue sky. So I desided to get the Boas out for a little outside time. I took Pebbles out, she is about 8.5' about 28-30 pounds and as peaceful as can be. Our block was loaded with kids of all ages playing, of course they are all interested in my girl, and all is going well. BUT There has been a trio of rabbits that have been hanging around the area. Well i saw a couple of them hopping around across the street, didnt think too much about it. A couple minutes later one of the little kids is chasing a rabbit out of our yard. Luckily the rabbit stopped about 5' away from Pebbles. I quickly chased the rabbit away to safety.
And of course today was her normal feeding day.
Well She knew there was a rabbit there and INSTANTLY went into feed mode! Of course she starts cruising around looking for her tasty morsel of bunny. A few of the kids see her moving about and of course all congregate by her. So i'm now chasing the kids away so they dont get bit. I had to tail her and she let out a real loud hiss. At least the kids knew not to mess with her then. Luckily I had a tote in the garrage that was open, so i was able to lock her in ght tub till i got her back in the cage.
Of course one of the paranoid mothers was right there to watch all this. Luckily no one got bit (including me)

yeah I guess No one told these rabbits that they are supposed to be mostly nocturnal.
Could have been a bad situation in many ways. Either a kid gets bit, or the whole neighborhood witnesses her killing a rabbit after i have told everyone how placid she is, and even worse how safe their kids are. Not sure how many people have had a snake kill a rabbit, but the rabbits don't go down quietly. They scream for quite a while. Could have REALLY gotten ugly.

Well..... One time i had my other big girl out a year or so ago in the back yard. it's fenced in so she could cruise the yard with no one bugging her, but i had a fairly lrge pine tree in the yard and didnt realize a rabbit had entered the yard. She kind curled up and WHAM she hit that rabbit like a ton of bricks. Bit, constricted, and as soon as she bit the rabbit is started screaming. Luckily it was mid week during the day so most of my neighbors were either at work or in the house.
I'm not about to try and seperate her from the rabbit, and by the time I got over to her the rabbit had pretty much expired. So i let her have it.

Nah, she just had this look on her face when she let out the big hiss. her kids wasn't one of the ones close to her.
Yeah which were you refering to as pests? i think some of the kids are much bigger pests than the rabbits. I know rabbits chew your garden, but the kids stop your garden into the ground.
Kerri you need to get a climbing tree/log and put in in the front window with the boa draped on it. No one will ring your bell when they see that in the window

I just have a sign on the front door that says, "Warning, snakes loose within this domicile, please wait for the 'all clear' before entering".

Last Friday was show and tell at my son's school and all the 1st graders gathered around and witnessed a live mice feed. Of course there was mixed reactions but they thought it was "AWESOME MAN". And needless to say my son felt like he was the just the BOMB walking around school with a snake around his neck. ..........But then again the mice didn't squeel like I'm sure a rabbit would!!!

Ed_r nice way to turn the tables. I pray nothing like that happens to me. Because when I take my big burm out she is the neighborhood's favorite past time. I don't really have a hard time with the mothers because they would prefer their child to come play with the snake than go out and buy one for the child to have. Also rabbits as the loudest scream I have every heard. I didn't know that made that much noise. Well good luch with the pest problems (kids and rabbits) and hopefully this problem doesn't come about with mothers out...because they might not say anything the first time but the second time they are going to voice there opinion.
