Van Helsing:Possible spoiler
Went to see it yesterday with the children.
I loved the effects but thought the story needed work. I knew it wasn;t going to be an epic though so I got what I was hoping for: a corny horror movie with great new special effects.
We had: Dr. Jekyle and Mr. Hyde (VERY cool character)---Frankenstein, Dracula and werewolves.
New Twist: the vampires looked like gargoyles when they flew and could move about in daylight as the sun moved into the clouds. The wolves ripped their own skin away as they changed, and the vampires layed eggs.
I won't go into the story line but the same VERY cool actress that was in underworld (playing the vampire wolf hunter) plays the Romanian vampire hunter in this movie.
The VanHelsing character was NICE.
Next , coming this summer: Alien V Predator.....

You are the second person to say that about the movie. I may actually go in to see it. Who needs a story when you have cool creatures and special effects

Actually, I was rather disappointed about the whole thing. I had no preconceptions, not knowing the story before seeing the movie, nor had I seen any trailers.
I thought the special effects were 'beginners efforts' at best. Not really syncing and slow to morph which really ruined it for me. Todays calibre of special effect has so far surpassed the ones seen in this movie that I rather thought this was amateurish.
As for the storyline, well, c'mon. Lets take a few horror legends and pile them all together for maximum impact. Pity the impact didn't actually hit hard.
I thought the female Vampires were wishy washy, the movie makers had so much scope to work with there, instead they ended up with insipid, occasionally sparky dishwater.
The female lead, as proven by the 'gasps' and 'oohs' emanating from the guy seated to my right was purely eyecandy. Her character was created to portray that also, with her depth lacking and her costume purely created for the male turn on.
This movie had horror buff potential that just didn't quite end up getting there.
Frankensteins Monster was great, Igor was well written and the Friar, well, he was 'Cue' all over.

wow --- it seems people are split right down the middle with this movie.
I thought it was corny but cute.
I mean another corny potential: alien V predator---but I have to see it anyway
Next week: Harry Potter

I usually don't go to see movies too often. I just wait till they come out on DVD. So I will see it then. That way im not sitting behind some huge guy with a fat head, or having to tell the people behind me to shut-up.

I heard the effects were great, but the story was bad, and they twisted up the charecters. Heard they had the vampires out attacking during the daylight So many movies coming out that just don't interest me.
I agree with Diablo, nothing worse than spending $20.00 to gto see a movie, only to have a big headed couple come sit directly in front of you in an empty theater, and talk all the way through it, and of course one of them seen the movie before and is telling the other the whole plot (if there is one) before it happens.
I'll wait for the DVD too.lol

yeah the vampires were attacking when the sun sunk behind the clouds.
I only go see movies when I can see it with the children....otherwise I'm with ya---I wait for the dvd. The kids love to go---and it always costs a fortune by the time we finish eating all the crap
