I know this is a snake forum but I believe there are quite a few of us who also have cats. If you are using any of those clumpable kitty litters THROW IT OUT!! Within the last month one of my cats has had a urinary blockage twice. This can cause death if not caught within the first few days. Both times it has been like a "cement" blockage which we feel is due to this kitty litter . This litter also has been known to cause quite a few other health problems due to ingestion and inhalation . If ya want anymore info email me at kahumano@hotmail.com

Thank you for the warning, Karen. I have been trying to warn people about the dangers of clumping cat litter for a while now. Working for a vet, we have had to open the poor things up to remove clumps of litter out of their intestinal tract before (maybe not as often as coins, but more than enough for me). It sticks to their paws and when they groom thmselves, they swallow it. The fluids in their body, saliva, digestive, etc, cause it to clump. Seriously nasty stuff. It's also darn near impoosible to sweep or vaccuum up. I have found the best 'litter' in the world, since I work where I do, we have tons of finely shredded paper. It's free and it doesn't hurt to step on it should Kitty decide to spill it on the floor. Sweeps up well, too. Best of all, it's free! Anyway. The other brand name stuff I like can be bought at (dare I say it?) PetsMart. It's Yesterday's News. It's pellets of recycled newspaper with some thing added to make it smell good. It's about $11 for a 40 pound bag but it lasts a long time. It's another one that's easy to sweep up should it spill.

Thanks for the tip, Karen. I have 2 cats & I use the clumping cat litter, but after reading your & Just-Me's posts, I researched some articles about it & ya'll are absolutely right. That stuff does some real damage to feline's urinary tracts and intestines, so thanks, I will be switching cat litter today.

I have 7 cats, and if I used clumping cat litters, I'd be put into the poor house from buying it all the time. =) Good old Tidy Cats Super Strength here.

About 2 1/2 years ago my kitty had crystals that blocked
his urinary track. It was painful and expensive!!
The vet said they can get it from switching cat food all the time.???

oooh Eddie I'm coming for ya. hahaha just kiddin Thanks Just-Me I'll give that litter a try. Until then I had an extra bag of Fresh Step (not the scoop one) to hold me over. Just about everyone I know uses the clumpable kind cuz it was much easier and cheaper.
