Our first Herping find...
It has been storming here. Well we were in the garage and on our way back we found this frog. The kids want to keep it. My questions are what kind is it? What kind of husbandry will I need (if keepable) and what will I need to get it to eat?My 5 yr old picked it up and picked it up right I was proud of him. They have named him Trevor like on Harry Potter LOL
Thanks all
Dani

First off, it doesn't look like a frog, appears to be an American Toad. I'm by far no expert on them, but i think it would be much better off in the wild. Not sure if they do well as captives.

yeah, i think it is a common toad. if you can get it to eat, it would probably be a cricket or earthworm, but i have never had much luck with them.

Ed is correct the toad is either an American toad (Bufo americanus) or a Fowler's toad (Bufo fowleri) you need a good, clear shot of the dorsum (back) for a positive ID.

He's a cute lil bugger, and I don't know squat about frogs.. but I really think he would be better off if you released him. The fun of herping is finding and taking pictures, then letting go.

If your children like frogs and you want a captive--get a whites or a chinese glider....
I know how you feel about finding something though. We found a tiny green garter in the basement...and they wanted to keep the snake in the worst way. We released him and that's how I ended up buying the corns
My big girl picked out a baby albino and the little one got the okeetee.
