I think that if a species is not native and has envirmental(sp?)afects on native plants and animals then get rid of them it like the cats in australia there killing off alot of native animals

So, what do you suggest? That they thow all of the cats in australia into a furnace? My theory is, if an animal does not have a direct negative impact on the environment, let it be. I don't see how people would want to kill off a species just because it didn't originally inhabbit an area. I whole-heartedly agree with julius on this one.

I too agree with Julius. Humans are not native to most places that we inhabit, and we DO generally have a direct negative affect on the ecosystem. So, I couldn't agree with exterminating something just because it wasn't native to that area.
Back to the food issue, if something is raised as food, then so be it. BUT, anything that is endangered etc. should not be consumed even if it is raised as food. I can understand cows and chikens and even iquanas, but if someone starts a tiger farm, that's where i draw the line

I just think it's blind arrogance to blame feral animals that were likely released into a habitat by us for ecoterrorism when NOTHING has ever come close to being as destructive as man with possible acception to meteors and Iceages. We tend to try and control the balance to suit us. But we rarely ever make any improvment. Our great grand parents found this out when they thought the wolves, coyotes, couger etc were killing off too many deer, elk and other grazing game animals. So they put a bounty on them and nearly wiped them all out only to later discover that these animals ate rodents more than anything else and the big game they did take was usually weak from disease and needed culled anyway. So the rat population exploded and the deer, elk and altelope populations suffered further due to diseases spreading out of control. Leave it alone LOL...we have a really crappy track record at playing God with the animal populations.

cats are having negative impact on the environment there cats are the worst about killing things just to kill them its not killing them off they live in other places it just that they might put certain species there in danger

Ahhh but who knows what happens if now all of a sudden you remove the cat factor. Who knows what will then flourish and take over as the top predator. I promise, it never works out where everything just goes back to the days before cat....not after a significant amount of time has passed anyway. Rabbits, fox, cane toads and camels have also heavily impacted Australia. Wipe em all out and see what happens...chaos!

The Dingo is not a native Aussie either.
But back to iguanas, What if it were determined that iguanas were on the brink of causing the extinction of a native species? Would you prefer to "allow nature to take it's course" or exterminate the feral species?
