Ladybugs/Iguanas
Are lady bugs toxic to iguanas?
I know its a pretty farfetched question, but my ig loves to eat anything red (for some unknown reason, maybe he thinks its all strawberries) and we do get lots of lady bugs around here....just wondering...

hmmm....good question.
I'm so glad you're not feeding your iguana lady bugs!

from what I understand, ladybugs are toxic to waterdragons so I'm assuming that is the case for reptiles in general. But to be honest I cannot remember where I read this---so I can't say for sure.
Most igs are attracted to bright things like flowers and fruit.....protien that comes from insects has been debated, and I'm in the group that is for the most part against anything like crickets or insects for igs.

Nicole is right. It would not be a good idea to feed ladybugs to your iggy.
All ladybugs give off a slightly toxic chemical when handled, a sort of foul-smelling yellow oil. For humans, the effect is negligible (we'd have to eat a few pounds of it to start feeling any effect), but it does affect smaller animals (small birds and lizards). It may not have any immediate consequences, but I wouldn't risk it.
My advice is: If you see them on your door or in your house, vacuum them up and don't feed them to your iguana.

Also, you don't know what sort of chemicals from other places they may have come in contact with. I'm not sure what kind of neighborhood you live in, but some people spray everything they can to keep them away.
Rule of thumb for the animal kingdom: If a bug is brightly colored, it's most likely bad to eat.

Oh. Oops.
One or two most likely wouldn't hurt him if he should ever come across them, but I'd keep them away as much as I could.

A little 7-five dust on the carpet will stop that problem.
