Can an Iguana be to old to tame?
Long story short, I have had my Iguana for about 1-2 years now and he is still aggressive. I admit I haven't made very many efforts to tame him (except taking him out and holding him with a pair of gloves and petting him every once in a while).
Sometimes when he comes down to eat food (he has a very tall cage) he allows me to stick my hand in and pet him. But even then I have to be very careful and move very slowly.
So anyways, is it possible to tame him and how would you suggest going about it?

Iggys can be pretty set in their ways after a while, but they can be somewhat tolerant of occassional cuddling.
The best bet is still old fashioned handling as it will either tame up some or not.
In either event, good luck

With a lot of time you can tame almost anything. I had a few rescued iggys that came in nasty and left very tame, but others still always were nasty. I tamed the ones I had by hand feeding and dealing with quite a few scratches and tail whips in the process. If your iggy doesnt tame though, you will just have a beautiful "display" pet. All I can say is try and try again.

grumpy and half dead unfortunately. They are too cheap ($5 each or less around here) and usually kept wrong, like in glass aquariums and such. Plus a lot of them even if kept properly are just grouchy and territorial. Pretty though and nice to have if you have the room and time.

The males can be very aggressive during that time

Yes Gemi your right.
They are victims of the pettrade---let's not even go there.....
DJA if you want I can put you in touch with some people who are like amazing with rescued igs. They (a man and his wife) take animals that are just past the point of no return and slowly gets them healthy and adopted. And it's all about iguanas.
If you want his email PM me and Ill give it to you.

I was not suggesting you give him away btw I was just suggesting that perhaps they could give you some tips to tame him down a bit

Not only during breeding season, but if a woman is in her monthly cycle around some male iggys......look out!
