trimming nails

How much do you trim?
I have kept a habit of triming mine at the quarter of a circle,
anyone care to share if they go longer? shorter?

I cut mine about the same I guess...as long as they don't start spurting blood all over, I suppose it's all good. It makes a huge difference though doesn't it? untrimmed, my iggy will slice you to ribbons by just gently hanging on. After a little nail trimming she's quite cuddly. Durring trimming however, body armor is a good thing to have on. Trimming Godzilla's nails is almost as scarey as I would imagine filling a cavity on the back tooth of a grown crocodile would be.

You are going to hate me but both my Iggys sit for me as I trim and file.

I ask cause I notice so many iguanas that have longer nails. I also notice their toes curve to one side. I was told I may be trimming too much or to often but I rarely hit blood (nobody’s perfect) and they don’t seem to show any problems as a result of this short.
Oh well, thanks for adding your thoughts
Steve

My iggy is tame as long as she gets her way. She will sit still While I trim the front but for some reason goes berzerk when I trim the back. I can put a towel over her head and stop her attacking me during this but now and then she pops out and comes after me. LOL She's a beast too. So far she has never bitten me but I would imagine it would hurt.

I have parrot though that will lay on her back in my lap and let me trim her beak and even grind it with a dremel tool. (She's getting pretty old and her beak scissors really fast so I have to keep it cut down) I keep her tounge out of the way with my finger and she never bites down. She bites Megan and my son just for trying to get her out of the cage though lol...she's daddy's girl all the way!

Sounds like you're doing great with the trimmings Steve

Since iggys in captivity usually don't have the variety of surfaces to wear the nails down as they do in the wild, they need a good trimming every so often.
The technique is basically the same as any other critter that gets trims. a sin not too close to the quick, or meat and as needed.
If you are seeing iggys with that seem too long and in some cases, curled nearly in a ful circle, just pass off some advice to the owner(s), pet store or whoever, and maybe they'll help make walking and climbing a little easier for the ig.
