broken toe help please

hello, am a very proud new ig owner, but my beautiful 8 month ig has broken one of his back foot toes. There is a big lump at the top of the toe joint near the foot and the whole toe is lying almost at a right angle. My vet says that it will just fall off, but I am not happy about this. Is he in pain? Other info says it should be amputated? I am also worried in case it catches on something and rips off. Please help, I really want to do the best I can for him, he is so so special.HELP!!!!

I don't think anyone can second guess a vet without first examining the animal. If you're not comfortable with your vet's advice, get a second opinion from another qualified herp vet.

I would definitly get a second opinion from a qualified vet. I have also read info saying that broken toes should be amputated. the toe could look fine, but since it is broken, it may flop around and get caught on something, and as you said, get ripped off. There is also the risk of infection. If there is a lump, it could be an abcess. I'm no vet, this is just my opinion. you can never be too careful.
