About a month ago I adopted a female iggy, she is 3 years old, form a woman. She was very tame and the woman handled her daily. I since brought her home fed her by hand, held her and she was a little leary but was doing quite well. Well since now if i even go near her cage she hisses at me bobs her head and wont even let me pick her up. I dont know what to do, i want to get her out of the cage and hold her but she does not want to be bothered. If anyone has any clue why her behavior has changed so much, or any suggestions on what to do I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

I don't know much about Iggies, but from what I understand (OK, I asked Eddie in chat) they sometimes just get this way. I know I've seen other posts about people having probs with aggression...I'd link em for ya, but I'm on a terribly slow connection...dig around the iguana forums...they're in there. Sorry I couldn't be more help

How are you sure that your iggy is a female?
It sounds possibly like male behaviour, and he's just getting into shape for breeding.
We've got two 5 footers... Annie, the female, is the biggest softy you ever met, and her attitude never changes. Skittles, the male, CAN be a big softy, but most of the time he's an absolute lunatic.. whipping, hissing, etc.. He REALLY gets in a mood sometimes.
Btw, yes, they are housed separately, heh. Annie lives in a 10'x5'x7' outdoor enclosure, and Skittles is in an 8'x3'x8' outdoor enclosure.

Well the lady had her ever since she was a baby and told me she was a female. She was well taken care of and im pretty sure she had a vet tell her she was a female but if i could even get close to her im sure i would be able to tell. Is there any way that maybe she is ready for breeding? I have heard female iggys get like this when they have eggs, could this be true?

I hate to say it, but this is what iguanas do. Main reason why I never recommend them to anyone as a pet. At least most of them anyway, maybe 1 in 20 will stay calm into later adulthood, but most tend to get an attitude when they hit sexual maturity and then get dumped. Anyway, I would definitely try to rule out a medical issue - if she isn't feeling well, anything you do could make her feel threatened. If she has developed eggs, you should get that looked into immediately. You may have to put in a nest box for her to lay them, otherwise she may get bound.
