I recently adopted an adult female iguana. On each side of her back, she has a few white, flakey spots. Any ideas on what it could be? Bacterial infection? Dermatitis? My local vet thought it was some simple skin infection that could be cleared up with iodine or some other topical. Anyone here ever see that before? And if so, how did you rid it?

Before you ask, everything else with her is fine. She eats like a pig, is very docile, and has all the housing requirements she needs. To me, it just looks like dried skin...what should I put on it?

I will try to post pics soon, but my digi camera is on the fritz.....

Under what conditions was this iggy in when you adopted it?
Give it a soaking and wipe it off good with a dry cloth, then apply some neosporin to it for a few days and see what happens. If it is just dry skin the neo will help loosen that up. The neo should help if it is a skin condition also.

Barry,

The iggy in question came from JuliusSqueezer, so as you can probably tell, she came from a good home. Actually, you saw this one at Bretts Christmas party. I will try the neosporin and keep ya posted.

oh.. that explains a lot. He prolly painted those on it to add more appeal lol. I have seen spots like that on them and other rough skinned reptiles before. I dont know if some of it was something that got on the skin and dried or what but after bathing it and adding the neo, it all cleared up on them. Keep us posted and let us know how it works.
