Iguana egg laying concern
Hey guy, I have a female green iguana about 3.4- 4 yrs old, and this is her 3rd breeding season, although she has never been bred.
I had manipulated her temps and amount of daylight hrs to see if maybe I could get her to not go into season this year and it seems to have worked partially with her not seeming to have carried as many eggs in previous seasons(~20 first year and ~30 previous season). She has carried them longer than in previous seasons but this could be a side effect of my manipulations causing her to go into breeding mode later than usual. She had laid her first cluth by the end of February the first year and by the end of January the second year.
My concern is with the actual laying of the eggs. When i came home from work Tuesday I took her outside as it was warm so she she could get some sun. After running around for about 1.5 hrs she went onto the porch and laid a single egg, and then took off again. After waiting for a short while to see if she was going to lay any more, I put her in her lay bin inside her cage. She laid another single egg outside the lay bin and that was it for the day.
She laid no more eggs on Wednesday.
I just got home from work today (Thursday), and she laid 6 more scattered about her cage on various levels. I put her in the tub to get a drink of water which she did and she laid 3 more eggs whilst swimming around.
I am concerned about the length of time it is taking her to lay these eggs. She seems to be having no problem with laying them and she is still very active. She has continued to eat well up untill about a week ago when she started showing obvious laying behavior.
If anyone has any opinions about this it will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for such a long post but I felt as though the back story was integral.
