Hey, just overjoyed and thought i'd mention that i adopted a new iggy today, 8 1/2 yrs old. I have experience and am highly excited and can't wait to post up pictures. I was just wondering is hardwood flooring or rug better for igs, because before always had large enclosures, but this one is going to get a room in my house. Thankers! Well, you need to consider how much scrubbing you want to do...

Carpet or rug will be good for it to wipe with after defication, but can lead to some stuck claws and possibly toe damage if it gets stuck and wrestles out of it..
The rug will also need to be cleaned asap afterwards (work....)

Hard wood floor would help prevent any nail snags, but will not let the iggy wipe afterwards. Also, the urates, being acidic, will do some floor damage, such as the finish being messed up, allowing the liquids to soak into the wood, possibly leading to damage to the floor itself in the long run.

Best bet would be to seal and tile the floor, then partition a lot of the floor off and add a layer of sand or partition most of the room off and make it into an enclosure for it by adding what is needed to contain the substrate, the iggy and all its goodies such as UV lights, heat etc which will also allow you to control temps and humidity better.

I never had the iguana I got in get its toes stuck in the carpet. I do suggets however, whatever you keep it on to place a through rug under the littler box so when it deficates and comes out it will be wiping on the throw rug instead you regular carpet or hardwood floor. This might help keep the room a little cleaner.
