Laying eggs
My iguana is laying eggs. I am not breeding her, but she started showing bumps so I took her to the vet. I prepared the nesting box, but I am not sure how long to leave the box with her. I am afraid to disturb her too much during this time. I know she has laid some eggs, but how do I know when she is done? I had another female years ago, and she never layed a single egg so this is new to me. Does anyone have advice?

Re: Laying eggs
I would leave the lay box with her all the time. She will lay all at once when she gets the chance. When she stops acting like she needs to lay eggs, you'll know when she's done. But during this time, don't disturb her much except for feeding, watering and cleaning. Also be sure she is getting plenty of calcium during this time so that she does not become egg bound.

Re: Laying eggs
Glad to see another ig owner on here!!!
This forum does not get a lot of action.
Adrya has given you great advice, I have nothing more to add. I have two male iguanas so no egg worries there! Let us know what happens.
Got any pictures? (Previous ones you can post....do not disturb her to take pics!!!)

Re: Laying eggs
Thanks for the great advice. She is new to my home so I don't have any good pics yet, but once she is done laying I'll post some. I hope she makes it o.k. through laying because her old home was feeding her things like lettuce and bannanas as her main staple. I've been giving her supplements since she's been with me. I don't think they had the UV light on her when I got her. I pretty much took her in hopes of rescuing her. Her coloration was mainly brown when I got her, but now she is turning more green, with exception to her tail, which had been previously broken. I've already spent more on her than either of my two dogs, but she is worth it.

Re: Laying eggs
Clover is beautiful. I thought Cousin It was a boy until I found out she was going to lay eggs. She started to turn a little orange and became a little more agressive and I thought that was more of a male thing.

Re: Laying eggs
Yeah I thought so too but they all turn orange to some extent, it seems. Mine also lose their appetites for a while and do not eat as much.
Mine are about six years old now, with totally different personalities. Poor Iggy hates everyone and shows it. He escaped once and was gone for months before I miraculously got him back, much the worse for his adventures in the "wild" and his close encounters of the canine, feline and human kind. Lost half of his tail (it grew back some twiggy kind of way) and some paws.
Clover is sweet and calm, but I love them both the same.
Looking forward to the pics.
