Sometimes if the lower jaw is swollen, it could mean MBD.

As shadrach said, sounds like it could be mouth rot. Is he/she able to close her mouth completely? If not, that is a good sign of mouth rot. DO NOT let it get too bad....at some point, it gets uncontrollable. You might want to make plans on seeing a vet. More specific's would be good, too...i.e. size, etc.... Good Luck!!!

Oh, and as far as the causes go, depending on exactly WHAT it is, good be many. Iggys are well known for scraping thier snout, causing an open wound. They will sometimes get food lodged in thier mouth, and if left there, causes bacteria to spread. Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

Take her to a qualified vet (i.e., reptile specialist) and have it checked out as soon as possible. May as well get an expert opinion based on first-hand examination. They can give you preventative information in the case of MBD, if that is the situation. Once you know exactly what the problem is there will likely be a ton of advice available here too! Keep us informed and good luck!

Swollen lower jaw in an iggy? Definitely sounds like a symptom of MBD to me. Make sure she gets enough vitamins and calcium in her diet. She should also be exposed to full-spectrum flourescent UV bulbs. One brand you can get is Repti-Sun or Iguana Light that should be replaced every 6 months (Even though the light still works, the bulbs stop giving off UV after 6 months). The iguana should also be able to get within 12" of the bulb to get the benefits of UV. Make sure there is nothing like glass or plastic between the iggy and the bulb, as these will block out UV rays. The bulbs don't compare to the benefits of the sun. But, it is important that you get your iggy to the vet ASAP. Good luck.

Like the others have said here....Vet ASAP is really needed to dx the problem going on atm.
In the meantime though. What is the exact husbandry of the IG and the relative info on the Ig also ?
NoTE : There is also a possibility that this could be an infection going on that is not mR also. If this is an ig that was being housed with another ig at all, or ya bought it at one of them pet store type places ...AND they housed it in with other igs..... It could be the result of being bitten by another Ig. No matter what it is..a vet visit is needed atm for the ig.
