Baby Green Ig - Again!

Guys I cannot tell you how much your input is helping me with Sweetie. Thank you for all the great suggestions & advise re diet!

I have kept iguanas for about six years and learnt quite a bit about them in that time. I have two adults, and am very careful with their diet too. I never give them any of the "restricted" foods that were mentioned in your posts, as I know of their dangers, as well as the correct proportion of fruit to dark leafy greens/squash/alfalfa.

As far as i can see, Sweetie is saving his poo to make a pile big enough to hide in. He just has not done anything in the almost three weeks since I have had him that looks like a normal iguana poop.
And now it seems to me that his hindquarters/legs may be paralysed, and there is a little hump in his spine near to the beginning of his tail, which has always been there from I got him, and the vet saw that too and commented on it. His belly is not as tight as it was.

This iguana is so small. He should never have been in the pet shop in the first place. I am waiting for them to call me again....I guess they are now thinking that he is dead. They have only called me one time since I took him.

My heart is with you. I bet you know more about igiuanas than I do, I just get a little panicy when I hear of a sick animal. My longing to help crushes me. I have books and videos on care of green igiuanas and I remember something about the condition that cause lumps or bends in the bones and legs becoming paralized. I will have to look it up though, but it is possible to overcome that condition. Just your loveing care and the right diet is all he needs and I know youre doing your best. Good luck!!!

Hi tammy i just wanted to throw this on here as alot of iguana owners seem to be veiwing this thread most of what i know is from a website that shows everthing about iguanas and info i swear by it

Thanks, I also shall check for the cause of these symptoms! Let me know what you find! All your input is appreciated greatly. Nobody knows everything!

Google Melissa Kaplan's Green Igiuana Care Collection. Then scroll down until you find Health, under that is a list and check out the title Metabolic Bone Disease. It kinda sounds like the symptoms Sweetie has. But I dont know all her symptoms, but it is fixable. I bought that video Melissa has a few years ago, and it is at my husband's house, it will be a few days before I can get that. Well, I hope that helps, Good Luck !!

I know about MBD and I fear it greatly, but somehow I do not think that is what is wrong - although I will admit it is a possibility!

By the way Sugarbear, you will never guess who is in Jamaica and who visited the Bob Marley museum yesterday (I pass there every day on my way home from work): the very distinguished and peerless Prince Charles and Camilla his wife, of England!!!!

There is a picture on the front page of our newspaper of them sandwiched among the "dreadlocks", nervously tapping on the bongo drums - hilarious!!!

Now I feel like going down the street and getting some Red Stripe!! Maybe my boyfreind will buy me some!! Well, I hope Sweetie pulls through, its so hard to play the guessing game, since they cant tell you how they feel. I believe he is lucky to have you though. You guys are in my prayers,( and moving to Jamaica is in my future, I need a boat). My boyfreind is a retired ocean boat captin, he came to "take me away". By the way, how old did you say Sweetie is? I was wondering if he might have been born with a problem of some kind.

It has been very comforting and helpful to communicate with you Sugarbear, Star, Youngair and everyone else in this thread, you are all so kind.

When I went home a while ago at lunch time Sweetie had gone to the Great Iguana Jungle in the Sky. He was quite dead, and beginning to stiffen, and had turned very dark. I was shocked and upset and still am. I thought he might pull through.

I really believe now that it was an impaction/obstruction along with MBD.

Sweetie was tiny, a hatchling green iguana about 11 inches snout to tail tip.

I am very sorry to hear that Tammy. I know you did all you could for him. Now maybe Sweetie and Ziggy can be freinds and think of us, the people who rescued them and loved them and tried so hard to make them healthy and happy. I know they apprecieted that. I'll drink one to You and Sweetie tonight. You are the Sweetie, for careing so much for that little baby. If I saw a photo, I would cry. I still miss Ziggy, and I still buy the same food I fed him out of habbit, only I eat it. I know, I'm a little strange, but healthy?!? Later Babe.
