Cyclura iguanas in the winter digs..

.
These two are great lizards (mini-dinosaurs).. and a source of fun and learning everyday.. If you like lizards and have all the space and time and patience (and tolerance for scrapes and scratches) it takes to keep these you should get some! If you don't, stay away!
.
The female is in the foreground..
.
Have fun, be safe!

Re: Cyclura iguanas in the winter digs..
Cant wait for mine to get that big. How are their temperaments?
Apparently its mating season and mine got pretty agressive not too long ago.
What is your impression of their behavior all year around?

Re: Cyclura iguanas in the winter digs..
Cyclura are my fav Iguanids. They're so prehistoric looking. Thanks for sharing. How long do they stay in the winter "barn"? I heard that TX was having a pretty mild winter, could you have left them outside? We definitely are in FL, temps in the upper 70s, low 80s today.

Hi,
.
They stay indoors for a couple of months. Our winters here are not too cold except for big fronts that blow through, and they have a large outdoor enclosure with all the options. The risk is that the temperatures will rapidly change.. 89 degrees in the afternoon, 39 degrees in the morning. That's very bad for things like this, they don't know winter and get blind-sided. I tried in years past to leave them out for all but the worst weather. It proved easier just to take them in around Christmas and put them out again after Valentine's day. No fuss, no worries. Plus their indoor barn is right in my workshop and they see me 29 times each day, it has made them quite tame.
.
Thanks!

They look absolutely beautiful, healthy and comfortable in their winter lodgings. Fabulous critters!

Wow those are some cool Iguanas. They look kinda like dogs the way it looks like they are coming up to you to see what you are doing. Awesome.

Hi, you're right, that's exactly what's going on. I wish I could say it was because they just loved me (and I'm a loveable guy ) but the truth is that they want to see what I've brought them! It's not so bad, part of a successful relationship is knowing what your role is. Mine is the PROVIDER in this case.
.
The female is entirely tolerant of me and seems to like to come out on my arm and see what's up.. she's not that fond of anybody else so far.. The male tries to push us around but I ignore him and he's ok but doesn't like being restrained in any way.
.
Thanks for your comments.
