unusual pooping behavior
so my rhino iguana has grown a bit since last time I posted here and he now exhibits some new behavior.
Warning this may gross you out or make you giggle. one or the other.
When I let him go potty, he sticks out two red long objects which im guessing is his private parts (correct me if im wrong). I also noticed a white fluid which looks like well, semen.
Behavioral wise, everytime he does go potty it seems like someone just shot him with a dose of adrenaline. he'll start charging me or running around in the cage. I tried petting him to see the level of his aggession and he violently shook his head when I touched him and began hissing (which he's never done before)
Are these normal behaviors and if so, what can I expect in the future.

Re: unusual pooping behavior
the 2 long red things coming out of his vent are his hemepenes(man parts) the white liquid could very well be semen. how old is he? if he is sexually mature, then that is most likely semen and its breeding season, so his testosterone is way up, so that could explain the aggressiveness

Re: unusual pooping behavior
what spike said sounds about right. (Yeah, I remember you name isn't spike, but I am forgetting it right now...lol ) I don't know much about lizards though, but if it is sexually mature or comint to that, it could very well be the reason. Any stimuli (going to the bathroom) could cause him to get a little uhh....moody? good luck

Re: unusual pooping behavior
Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone know what I can expect in the future? Is this a sign of something bigger or just one of his new querks?

Unless you have an older male iguana, then breeding season never stops.
The "semen" looking substance could very well be sperm plugs, or it could be associated with urine/urate.

Re: unusual pooping behavior
yea sounds like sperm plugs, if he gets really excited u may even see some blood after the sperm plugs pop, Sperm plugs are semen deposits that build up and harden, kinda like a glue bottle if you dont close it. Very normal during mating season, heck get him a partner so he can relieve some tension!!! lol good luck

Re: unusual pooping behavior
Well its official. He tried to eat me.
Funny thing is that he only gets argressive when he poops; thats when the male part comes out and thats when I see the sperm. And it drives him crazy!
After I let him go potty I put him back in his cage and closed the glass door. He seemed very tense and I wanted to see the level of his agression. I waved my hand slowly as if I was petting him. He started by head bobbing, then hissing loudly with his mouth open, and then he tried to attack me with 3 good solid face plants on the glass before it hurt too much I guess. Then he simply turned his back to me giving me a hateful look from the side.
I couldnt believe how much my presents irritated him. He even started scratching his head as if I was all over him or something.
After work I came back to check on him and he was back to normal (untill I let him go potty again).
