Jelly Bean Loves His Butternut
When feeding breakfast to the Iguanas this morning I got inspired to take some photos when Jelly Bean our largest male grabbed up his first mouthful and had masses of grated squash hanging out of both sides of his mouth.
Like always I could not get another great shot like that would have been but here is what I caught.

Nice make sure even though they would relish until they are full (i know from experience they will lol) they still need the dark leafy greens. Great pics he is impressive.

Yugair,
Thank you for your concern, the number of people who do not have any idea on the proper dietary needs of Green Iguanas appalls me. I very much agree with what you pointed out and Adrya is quite correct I do know their dietary needs. I had my first Iggy in the 70s and am so thankful for the advances we have made in care knowledge. Back then we thought Bananas were good Iguana food. Now I would not feed a banana to them if someone paid me.
Jelly Bean and all our rescues get a variety of things they really like such as Squash, Strawberries, Mango etc, high water foods, for breakfast with their calcium, and/or Vitamin supplements, on it then we hang the fresh greens of varying types about noon for them to graze on.
Once I get the outdoor enclosure finished next week I hope, they will also be able to graze on live edible plants at will in addition to their conditioned hanging green diet. It will be interesting to see how much they graze and if it will lessen their intake of supplemental greens.

Re: Jelly Bean Loves His Butternut
Somebody needs to teach this guy how to use a fork! Oh, and a napkin wouldn't hurt either. Reminds me of a guy I once went to dinner with ("once" is the operative word).
Seriously, that's very very cute to see him enjoying his food so much

I'm not one for taking pics much but here is one of him a few years back shortly after we took him in. He is missing about 8 - 12 inches of his tail, not seen in the photo, and is now 59+ inches long tip to tip. He is also the most docile of all the rescues we have had and loves a good scratching, as long as it does not interfere with his eating. LOL, actually after breakfast he has no problem with being touched/scratched but tenses up when picked up and has drawn blood twice, from me, when we took him to the vet for his yearly checkups. He almost never whips because he knows it does not phase me.

Re: Jelly Bean Loves His Butternut
Haha great picture, John could you send me pics of that cage, it looks very "realistic" and id like to replace my generic shelves with a more realistic type of climbing surfaces (branches). Your the man John Iguana's Rock!
