Fiona.. Seems that you have gone from asking about getting/thinking of getting an Iguana to having at least 2 of them in like a span of 8 days time.
First off. PLEASE think it over VERY CAREFULLY and with
TONS OF THOUGHT as to any regard of breeding Iguanas. There are
MANY things which would relate to
NOT breeding Iguanas
IMO. Such are..
1. There are
MANY Iguanas, of ALL sizes that come into rescue that homes are hard to find for them.
2. Iguanas are
NOT an easily kept reptile.
And so on...
Now as for your problem with the Iguanas and what has happened.
YES the male does bite when breeding the female. He will actually bite her on the backside of the neck usually. Being as Iguanas have teeth like shards of glass, this can be a major problem healthwise from the biting for the female. With the amount of bacteria that the Iguana has present in it's mouth, secondary infection problems can also come about as a result of the biting too. IF not treated properly then the Iguana can also wind up with a septic infection through-out as a result of the bite[s] even.
If your going to keep two Iguanas and one is a male, then you really need to separate them
IMO. That means
TWO cages,
NOT one for your Iguanas that you are keeping.
Males Iguanas also can get
VERY unmanagable to say the least when they are in a breed. Even for humans that normally handle them.
If your male is in his breed, then do the following for him....
Separate him from
ALL other Iguanas.
Give him a "LOVE-SOCK" to work his sexual frustrations out on/with.
Stay away from him when you are in your menstrual. [YES, He will chase you even LOL]
For the female that he has already bitten...
Clean the area of the bite and apply some neosporin to it daily. Make sure that the neo has
NO pain reliever in it also that you use.
Sorry for your question in regards to the female and her "whitening" in color question.. That one I do not know about. As for the submission thing, YES that is normal.
