Amos, are you friends with deadirish? LOL
Best advice I have, is give him time to adjust to his new home first off, then his new owners.. You have to gain their trust. He thought you were going to eat him, and bit in defense, most likely.
Its usually better to start slow with just trying to hand feed and pet the ig..Then move on to handling..
They dont seem to freak out as much if you reach under their bodies to pick them up..if you reach over their bodies, they may feel threatened.
Other than that, gentle nature, perseverance, patience, and time will help your ig adjust to you.

LOL! Just wondering if you got the ig from him, he was telling the story on AT, and his "encounter" with the other end of the same ig cracked me up!!!!!
Seriously, ig bites can be serious..I would leave it alone for at least 4days, and just feed it, talk to it while you do basic cage duties and then work your way from there..
Post some pics too, I heard that calms them down a lot

Gvie him some time to settle down in his environment, they often will not eat for a few days after a change of home. Make sure he has plenty of water (a swimming pool) he can soak in if he wants to cool off. Mine bask in the sun and then one of them goes into the pool, half of which is covered so he can "hide" in his water, and he even sleeps there.
They love and need lots of sunlight but need to be able to cool off in the shade or the water at any time.
Good Ig foods I have noticed they love: peanut butter on bran or wheat bread (creamy), dark leafy greens like pak choy or mustard greens, gratered raw pumpkin (very good to bring out the orange colour) and quaker whole grain "old fashioned" oats - half a handful sprinkled on their meal and wet a little.
Have fun with your new ig.
