Mites Mite Pics?

can anyone give me some pics or a place where i can find them to see if my iguana has them. He has these black pigments like freckles over his body mainly on his back and some on his back legs could they be mites? I cant get a picture at the moment but there like a bunch of black dots spread out.

Do they move or come off in water? Do a soak and see if they come off. That would be a pretty good indication.

no they do not come off and i have never seen eggs or anything moving he has had these black dots since i got him and they dont go away after sheds? Are they just black pigments in his skin or are they dead mites? I have checked his eyes and seen nothing and i am always "looking" at him and have never seen anything move. He was on a couple white t-shirts until i got his towels for his shelf ( there black ) but i never seen anything on those white t-shirts and he had these black dots at that time too. So what does everyone think? Iguana's usually have some balck coloring in their skin right?

If they don't move and you can't scratch one off with your fingernail (easy, in case its his skin!!), then mites are unlikely. Do iggies get ticks?

You should consider PMing Alika, she knows iggies pretty well I think.

Nah i can scratch it off at all its like part of his scales yah know. I have always seen pictures of iguana's with black pigments in their skins and it tends to become more present when they get older. I dont think i have a mite problem at all but just checking on it. Anyone got any pictures of iguana's with mites?

As iguanas get older, their color starts changing 'pixel by pixel' as some would say... or scale by scale. Many green iguanas lose their green coloring by adulthood and become brown or black. Those that don't completely change over still have scales that turn. When Xander started to turn, I worried a bit, too, but it's perfectly normal.

I've never dealt with mites, but you should be able to see them moving, and when you give him a soak, they should float up to the top of the water. Probably what you're seeing is just that color change.
