New baby
I've been reading different things on when, how long to handle it. But I slowly approached it and touched him, he's okay when i move carefully and he sees my hand before it comes. But he's still timid. Its only been a few days so im not expecting much. He's been eating alot, untill today he hasnt really eaten anything. He also doesnt like to climb on his branch, but on the side of the cage. He's about six inches in body not including the tail. How long should I wait before transfering him to another cage? I think he might like it better in a bigger cage to move around. I notice he likes to explore he's rather curious fellow.

what kind of snake? also any pics? how old? what length? just don't over stress the snake. if you have a nice solid enclosure you plan on keeping him in for a while I would just move him into it and let him settle for a week or so....
also what kind of heating are you using? what type of enclosure?

You are going to need a BIG cage! My advice: Handle it as much as he/she can take without getting stressed...the more often the better. If you don't...it is a guarantee that it will get mean. A mean seven foot iguana is what you don't want. There is so many stranded iguanas out there for this very reason. I'm not saying you will do this, but just making sure you know all this. Good luck!

no its not a gurantee if not handled it will get mean if it is abused then it may be but an iguana with not much interaction would be like a wild iguana and wild iguana's arnt all mean it just depends just watch out for breeding season and make sure you got the proper lighting, diet, and handle as much as possible that site that i gave you for the cage plans also has a TON of info on iguana's and was my main refrence when i got mine, thanks to that site mine is happy and healthy

Oh I understand it wont get mean. I know the difference between a mean animal and a wild one. My second snake I had was very different from the first, he was handle once, and then refused it other times. In his mind he was like "Im a big bad rattler, I dare you to pick me up!" Even though he was a little corn snake, but he never did like being handle, not because he was mean, just because his nature was to be wild. And thanks for the site! ill glad do it, I've done alot of research already and done mind learning some more. He's gaining weight though, when i first got him he was a tad skinny, i find him adorable! And he took to the bigger cage I got him in a matter of seconds, he new it was for him the moment I let him in. I decided to put his little cage in the bigger one, just in case he wasnt comfortable, but nope, he got out and made himself right at home! and dont worry I have the complete lighting, i make sure his cage is set at the right heat and misting everyday. Though...he really doesnt like the mist, or waterbottle..he looks at it like he was to destory it.

good to hear he is doing well i do baths daily occasionally i miss a day b.c i was busy but my iguana has accustom to this and only goes to the bathroom when given a bath and even when i miss a day he just holds it. Try to get your ig use to bath's asap it helps alot in hydration. Just be sure the water isnt too hot or too cold.

Yeah,I read about the baths, but what do you do about hymidity? I find it rather difficult because its an open air cage. Is there any good way to keep the humidity up without spraying so much? I heard of the boxes with moss in it, but I have this feeling he wont get in it because i have a hide box when i first got him and he never used it. He really just likes being up high, he wont even come down to eat, i had to fashion something for him to eat off of up high.

I have a human room air humidifier for my iguana, who is in an open-air enclosure. I simply close the door of the room he is in, and the humidity easily keeps itself up at 60%+ , higher when I mist. That's an accomplishment in our dry environment.
