New year,blue skin.
Here are a couple shots of my girl Cyan.I've been patiently waiting for the dark brown skin to come off,as I could see a nice blue underneath. She's been growing by leaps and bounds and gaining color rapidly.I have to say I was disappointed with the brown lizard I got right out of the box with only some blue on her head.Anyhow here are some pix... The light is a bit odd but these are untouched, save cropping..believe it or not.

My pretty girl is a boy!
Cyan showed me her hemipenes today! What a shocker! As far as I know she came from David Blair sexed as female and the original buyer purpetuated the myth to the cyclura breeder I bought her..um..him from.I had been thinking that maybe they were wrong as I had noticed a slight bulging and the jaw was getting more pronounced. Not to mention the outrageous color he's been picking up lately.
I didn't get a good look at it just a quick view of it reeling back in from like 3/4" out.So I'm fairly certain this was what I was looking at.I have to say I was a bit bummed out at first but after thinking about it,I won't have to listen to the insane digging and no egg bound troubles either.A male will make a more grand spectacle as well..bigger,bluer.
Well I suppose I have to find a more fitting name for him now as Cyan, though fitting for a blue lizard,is a bit girly for him.
Any suggestions for a new name for my handsome BOY lizard?Maybe something from west indies folklore?
OH....vote for us!Lizard of the month pix. He's number 2!!Thank you fer your support!

hey congrats! There is NOTHING more gorgeous then a male blue.
What about Ryan? (it's close to cyan and a boys name)
I'm a big fan of human names for cyclura.
He's really a wonderful looking animal

How about Anansi?
"The trickster Anansi, originally a West African spider-god, lives on in these tales. Why is this figure so universal? And why did so many African American folk tales recount his exploits, under one name or another? Anansi is the spirit of rebellion; he is able to overturn the social order; he can marry the Kings' daughter, create wealth out of thin air; baffle the Devil and cheat Death. Even if Anansi loses in one story, you know that he will overcome in the next. For an oppressed people Anansi conveyed a simple message from one generation to the next:--that freedom and dignity are worth fighting for, at any odds."
There are very cool folk tales about Anansi- he is very popular in Antigua, Jamaica, etc.

Thanks!
I saw that story too,on a different site.
www.users.carib-link.net/~rfbarnes/anansi.htm
Check out the background. They put a green iguana design in it as wallpaper.
Seems to be an appropriate name though I'm not sure about having a
"uh-nancy" boy living with me!
Anyway keep 'em coming,we'll find him a good one yet. Thanks for caring!
We're gonna go out for a walk now. It's actually 75 today...gotta take advantage of it while we can!
Later!

Some new pix!
Had a nice walk yesterday, got some new pix too. Here's one for ya.

Don't worry Nicole,I'll be sweatin' my butt off soon enough!Summer down here is just brutal.AND I work in a screenprinting shop "in the weather"..kind of.(forced air gas dryer,350.. 3 flash cure dryers 350 ea.)Did I say it was hot at work?
I was online looking for names most of the night and still can't decide on anything.Any more suggestions? It's gotta be somethin' cool because he's going to be one awesome looking lizard in the next few years.
Leaning towards: Zack,Apophis,Ladon(Hera's dragon),and Gandolf.

Another one..
I think I got the transparency down this time.I always liked Gandolf as well. That was the only set of fiction books I really read cover to cover YEARS ago.THe real ones..super thick, unabridged versions in hardback of all four books. Here's the pic:
