Subject: I am in need of help

I am a owner of a very sick reptile. My pet's name is Dre. He is an Iguana
that is suffering from pinworm, and in progress of Metabolic bone disease. I
am a collge student and is not able to pay for all the expenses as I thought
I would. When I took him to the vet I had only had him for a couple of
months but when I took him the vet said the progress of the infection, I had
bought the Iguana and it had already had pin worms but was as bad as it is
now. I know that you are located in Las Vegas, I am in Washington, DC but I
cannot find any rescue agency within my area. If you can help me or know
someone in the Maryland or viginia area where I can call, can you give me
their number.

Thanks
LaShawn

Unfortunately, I do not have any sources in your area at this time.

May I post your request in a few reptile forums that may be able to help
you?

Thanks

Maria

Yes you can post the request to other reptile forums. As far as right now I'm going to the vet and see what's going on now.
Thanks
LaShawn

wow.
It's sad that people think reptiles are toys--that will never need medical care---otherwise how do we explain all these types of emails?
"Dear soandso--My pet (blank) is now sick so will you take him?? I don't have the money to care for him properly"
So why did you get the animal?
Really really sad

It is terribly sad. You can’t begin to imagine all the stories Maria and I hear. It is heartbreaking knowing there are so many animals in pain out there just suffering in a cage with no heat, MBD and who knows what else. Yet the “Guy” at the pet store assured them all they need is a hot rock and lettuce…. Sometimes I want to scream

almost worse is that the guy at the petstore thinks he's right.
Iguanas are a huge undertaking. How can any rescue function with too many? Between the burms and those poor lizards--it's a wonder there are any rescues left.
What do you do with an animal this large and this sick?

Here is some good iguana news to break this

Maria and I got an e-mail from a nice lady who was given an iguana. She just took it in cause her neighbors didn’t want it. Realizing she took on too much she asked if we could help. It was still small, nose to vent about 6 inches. looked healthy.
We picked him up and drove directly to the vet for a check up. As we walked in a lady was saying that is the kind of lizard she is getting next. Vet confirms she knows lizard care and she takes him, paid for the vet check up and is now the new owner.

I wish they were all that easy

Steve
