Got a new family member this week!
Happy Turkey Day all!
Got a pretty 3 year old female lewisi X caymanesis hybrid the 23rd.She's fairly tame but still nervous about me.I can't blame her,she got shipped from MO. to Orlando in a box...I'd be wary too! She's not as blue as I had expected. The guy I got her from said (he's a breeder, though he didn't produce this one..it's Blair stock)that it's more likely a nubila nubila cross, contrary to the paperwork we're trying to get from the original owner and only 75% at that.Regardless, she a nice lizard and a welcome addition to the family.I was just wondering if anyone out there might agree or disagree with this contention. Here's a picture..you tell me or http://geocities.com/ikmetal03/cyanbluecloseup.jpg

I couldn't tell a thing about it's heritage, but I'm not so good with the legged creatures. It's cute anyway.
Welcome to RTB by the way.

The iguana looks to be half lewisi to me---could be caymanensis or cuban crossed but the color is wonderful for a cross at all. Most crosses have little or no blue in them---and they require genetic testing to be sure.
If the animal is really from David Blair it's a cuban cross. He only crosses lewisi with cubans (at least as of last year) and the reason is to have a CITIES appendix I exempt status.
All animals from DBlair come with a certificate, so you can try to locate this paperwork and take it from there.
GREAT looking lizard by the way.

I have been having a a problem finding time to upload recent pics
I literally have been stealing time to get on the computer lately because of the holiday, home decorating (still),my daughter's HUGE party next week, children and life.
All of a sudden it seems everything has caught up with me
But yes, I have have one lewisi/cuban cross from DBlair and one rhino (who is the love of my life) from the St. Pierres. I have been interested in the caymanensis ever since I saw them on little cayman. DBlair sells them but not out of CA or without a special permit. When I have time on day soon I'll work on a permit. They are awesome looking iguanas.
The blue you have looks like (if he's from DB) one of the animals who were sold as a high blue--from a male who was almost powder blue. He (David) had some great looking babies a while back and by the time I found out he had only one female left and I needed a male
What kind of diet are you feeding?
What name did you choose?
He looks a bit older then mine unless it's the angle---how large is he?

Hello again...
It's a girly lizard. Her name is Cyan, though I just found out that the last true keeper had called her Gypsy.I haven't had any further contact with him at present but am hopeful. She was sold to me as a 3 year old but Eric,(her last human) says that she may be 4.Cyan is about 27" long, complete.(I'll make accurate measurements soon)She eats all day long, every day!I feed her collard greens, carrots, mango, apples, spinach leaves, sweet potatoes, romaine and radiccio lettuce(for variety)and mixed vegetables.I have also given her banana as a treat.I've also been looking at papaya for something different.I live in a,let's say...ethnic neighborhood here in Orlando,Florida and have no transpo so food selection is not nearly as varied as I'd like.)I kind of went overboard with the grocery list I think. She's the only herbivore in the house(including myself ) and stuff will most assuredly go bad before she eats it all!
She's been here for less than a week but acclimating nicely,I think. She runs from me when I go to get her but she calms right down when held for a second.I'm looking forward to the day when I can give her run of the house. My kids like their new "sister" (daughter 3 and son 5) and I have advised them to be nice to her and pay attention to how to take care of her as they will have to when I get old and grey!
I have an almost 4 foot Nile I had "rescued" from hurricane damaged friend's home which I am dilligently trying to sell(only for the $100 I have in it...posted here amongst other sites) to free up the larger cage I have but in the interim I built one for her to live in that is just adequate for the time being.
I have been studying the species alot before I got her and have raised and bred greens and other lizards so I think I have a handle on it but any advice would be readily welcomed. Thanks for looking!

really nice looking lizard.
Buy some iguana dust by Trex and this will help to balance out her salads.
What about lighting?
This is a rock iguana so a MVB with a rock, positioned under it will make a great basking site. Since they are not arboreal like green igs a nice large walking area is required. Also a soaking pan (cat litter pan) for good sheds and a hide will be fine.
Looks like you already have the cypress---which is a great substrate for them.

Set-up....
This is a shot of her set-up.I realize this is NOT big enough by any means(4'x2'x2.5' approx. inside dimentions) but it's what I had room for at the moment and plan on changing a larger cage as soon as I re-home it's inhabitant.{Know anyone looking for a pretty Nile?posted on this site in classifieds } I am currently looking to get a MBV as soon as I can.I have to get Christmas and Dec. bills first! (My co. JUST went out of business overnite!Lookin' for a new gig... wicked bad timing!!)
Anyway..the shelf gets a reading of 117-120 from an 85 watt flood.I also have a small flourescent in there.I have been taking her out and bathing her regularly as there is not room for the pan as you see.
I wish I had a room for her like I had for my greens years ago..cypress on floor,HUGE cypress trunk stretching from th floor to the ceiling where there was a shelf for basking under a double 40 UV setup, basking lights, actual stones from the desert with slide control temp.,BIG water dish(where they'd "go" poured out back door made 3" clovers! No kidding! We should market the stuff! ,couple plants too..it was awesome.I could just open the door to the room and call my girl Shirley and she'd walk out and I'd pat on the couch and she'd come and watch TV over my shoulder.
We'll get there again one day,I'm sure of it!

Not TOO bad for scraps,I thought.Could be prettier but I'm not done yet and it's only temporary until the Nile is gone.

Don't worry about cosmetics....what's really important are great bulbs (the only bulbs that will put out the UVB your lizard would recieve on Grand Cayman in Mac industry bulbs)....varied diet (and iguana dust for insurance) and some room to run about each day.
She's large enough to to be let out (in a lizard proofed room) to roam.
What part of the country do you live in? I'm in NJ and the climate prohibits any of the animals being let out right now
Please keep posting pics of her progress--I hardly ever see a larger blue cyclura except at cyclura.com (Binn's babies). If you haven't been there I think you'll love the site
