Today I got my iggy into a iggy harnes, and she didn't realy like it. The harnes is a leather jacket with a leash attached. She started rolling around, and whipping her tail! after I got her calmed down, i noticed that the tip of her tail broke off, just under half and inch, the bleeding seems to have stopped. also I noticed one of her spines got half pulled out, and i could see blood there, no bleeding tho.

My questions are
1) what should I do to the tail? Would ploeysporin and a bandaid work.....

2)What should I do to the spine that riped half way off?

Thanks in advance!

OK..As far as the tail goes. make sure that the bleding has indeed stopped. Also you need to watch for infection too in the area now. You can apply the neosporin to the end of the tail, make sure it is not the one with the pain reliever in it and is the basic neosprin also. Don't put any band - aid on the iggy. if it can reach it it may eat it and you'll have more problems on your hands with iggy. You also need to make sure and watch to see that all the damaged area of the tail did indeed come/ break off completely too. If it hasn't then you could wind up with an infection that will fester and go gangrenous to the tail. MAke sure that the iggy is kept in a very clean environment also to prevent any infections.

I'm hoping that you actually meant the "SPIKE" NOT the "spine"
If it is the spike then what exactly do you mean by it ripped halfway off? The top half broke off or the base end of it is halfway ripped from the body ? Just apply some neosporin on it and leave it alone. Also watch it closely for any sign of infection too.

If you actually mean the spine...GET THE IGGY TO A VET ASAP !

As for the tail, There is a little chunk of skin still attached to it... should I remove it ..?

The Spine- I was refering to the spikes that runs along her back. One of them broke at the base of her back, but only half way. it is still attached by one side ....

The leash worked ok, she just got spooked i guess, once I got her out side she calmed down, and enjoyed it. The only problem is she dosen't like to be put in it, I was thinking about making a coller and leash for her out of some kind of soft material.
That was the first time she has ever been in a leash, so I was thinking if i got her use to the leash she would be ok with it....

I am not gonna reply to the loose skin. I'll let someone else do that. As far as the leash goes.. you need to be careful about where you put the leash on at if the iggy isnt used to it. Make sure there isnt anything around that it can slap the tail against if it starts freaking and rolling about. Get the leash on and then set the iggy down outside somewhere in the wide open. It will eventually get used to it and not pay it no mind. It will just take time SO be careful. OH YEAH... If you use a leash, expect to loose some spikes where the leash is. The iggy I had was missing several spikes where the leash rubbed. Keep the areas coated with neosporin and watch it close. GOOD LUCK

Sorry I couldn't tell ya on that one. Would really have to see exactly what it is that is going on with it in order to say. Allthough I wouldn't go "pulling" any skin from anywhere off if I were you. You may need to take to the vet even.

Well the tail look like it is healing good, the chunk of skin has fallen off on it's own. The Spike on her back is still half attached but looks like it is healing. She seems to be in good health, No loss of appatite and she just started to shed yesterday. To me she looks like the same iggy as before. Would you guys suggest that i make a visit to the vet.

After Sativa was done freaking out, when I first put the leash on, she calmed down alot, i took her outside 4 the 1st time since i have had her, and she seemed to really enjoy it. she just sat on my lap and sunned herself.

I really want to be able to take her out side due to the fact the she is keep in the basement with minimal natural sunlight, i want to be able to take her outside to get the natural light, with out taking the chance that she might run away. How long of a period of natural sunlight is good for an iggy? I have been told that 1hour is all they need, is this correct? I have an iggy light going 12 on 12 off, in my room still to give her the UVB requirements.

The more you can give her the better off she'll be. Just make sure that you continue to provide the UVB for her in her caging to make up for the loss in natural sunlight she would have gotten exposed to in her natural environment.

Think some of us did that already. BUT at this point as long as there is no sign of infection and seems to be healing up on it's own...I personally wouldn't worry about a vet visit myself for the iggy. Just keep a close eye on the areas and continue to apply the neosporin to it also.
