I just love the massive lizards. Good luck with her. Are you planning on finding her a male?

Thanks---I'm off to see them in their habitats on sat--I leave my house at like 5 am (so of course I get up at like 2 LOL) I will be working with the species pictures in my signature---then for one day we take a side trip to little cayman to observe the brown cay iguana. Also massive, and endangered but not red listed like those poor blues.
I have an old copy of reptiles mag from 1996===where the breeding facility on GC was pictured and written about. The article stated there was 150 left in the wild. Now there are less then 20---some say half that It's very sad...they are gorgeous intelligent animals.....they will be functionally extinct in 5 years without some serious help both practically and financially.
Also an update on mine:
I, as of yesterday seperated the two cyclura....the Rhino was pushing the blue around too much for me to be comfortable leaving them for two weeks. So I installed an emergency cage for John, the blue, and will leave them this way until I can quadruple their cage space when I move. The rhino is something else...but clearly---the ruler of the roost
The thing with lizards as I have said in previous posts---you can never tell if they will be ok cohabitating. You must always be prepared, no matter how large the animal is or will be---to seperate or you need to not get the second animal. I have high hopes of them getting along in the future though...let's see

How did you manage to get a lewisi? i thought they were highly endangered. Or is that another sepecies with the lewisi ending?

David Blair breeds them and gets around that by selling blue crosses....this way people get a species that's virtually identical without having to acquire permits (that are just about impossible to acquire) for endangered species.
In fact, in Grand Cayman when the breed and release facility opened and they began the whole process of breeding these animals to save them---they found some crosses mixed into what was visually "pure" breeding specimens--but only after DNA testing was done.
These animals were obviously useless and counterproductive for the project, so they were sterilized and released. But it's interesting to note that many of the experts did not know of the mixed blood until the dna was explored.
