new Iguana Mommy
Hi,
As of yesterday I am now the proud mom of a hatcling green iguana named morpheus (we call him baby morphee right now!!) He isnt much more than 3 inches or so snout to vent, and around 8 inches total length, he's a little fiesty, but is calming down quite quickly. I will post pics asap.

hey leyla
I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to answer you email yet! Congrats on the new Ig! Have you considered what to do when he comes into season?
If you can join the IIS (International Iguana Society) and you will get the mag free which is really the best publication for all igs you can get. Makes Reptiles and others look like SEE SPOT RUN books
Also rent the dvd REPTLES: LIZARDS and SNAKES so you can see how one man deals with his males seasonal stuff...he has them walking about his home and feels unless the male can visually see another male they will end up attacking humans. He feels it's a whole psychological thing. So he allows his males to occasionally view one another through glass/
Interesting to see

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies. So far Moorphee seems comfortable in his new home, he is eating well, and his routine is normalizing. He allowed me to hold him for over 30 mins last night, eventually falling asleep in my hand. He is developing trust very quickly, which is great.
So far he has eaten collards, pumpkin, rose petals.....it seems that there isnt a food that he doesnt like. (of course, I know that he doesnt instictually know what is/isnt good for him!) I will keep you all updated.

I can never tell the sex of a hatchling ig...what is it you look for at that age? Or are you guessing?

Can't tell at that age
When tyhey reach a more mature age and size, looking for the prominent pores or lack of on the inside thighs is the sure way to tell.
Breeding season orange means nothing as females can show orange also.

Mine came sexed (but these were cylcura igs) after being probed by the breeder. That is the only way to tell until an ig is about 8 inches and even then it's a tossup due to latent gender specific characteristics.

Hi Guys,
I have not had Morphee offically sexed yet, although the size and prominence of his dewlap are giving me a clue that he may be a "he". Regardless it really doesnt matter at all, as I have fallen for him completely!! He is such a little character!! Today we left for most of the day, and when we got home, he was VERY full, obviously had been eating on and off all day! As soon as he saw me come into the room, he ran around like crazy and looked at the roof of his enclosure, so I immediately took him out, and held him/let him walk all over me for 25 mins, he is now as calm as can be in the enclosure, it seems to me that all he wanted was to see me???
Nicole, no I havent tried baby food yet, but I will definitly give it a shot!!
Thanks,
Leyla x

It's messy so I try to actually wipe their faces now afterwards---it gets hard then baked on if I don't. They love all the fruits....beware they get hooked on fruits so much they hold out for it sometimes. Mine know they get no fruits until they clean their greens.
Get some Iguana Dust---that stuff ROCKS.
