reality check
again i am thinking about how us reptile owners are not all there. here are some for instances.
we go to a pet shop and see a hundred snakes crammed into one small tank. old feces and sheds everywhere. you dont know where one snake ends and another begins. you see one that looks a little more sad then the rest and you pick that one. you take the snake home and you put it in the penthouse that you spent a week setting up. perfect temps, water bowls one on the hot side and one on the cool. hides in every corner. belly heat and top heat. thermostat to make sure temps are perfect. a perfect mist on the mulch. you get the snake out of the container the pet shop put it in to take it home. the snake may or may not bite you as you are getting it out. you start thawing it a rat cause you know the pet shop did not feed them right. rat perfect temp...your new snake refuses to even smell the rat. you rush to RTB and make a help me thread. people tell you that you have stressed your new baby out and it need time to adapt to its new perfect surroundings. you are told that stress can kill a snake and you feel an inch tall for spending all this money on the perfect enclosure and offering food immediately to your new baby. you have his penthouse in your bedroom and you need to make sure it is not high traffic area. you stumble around in the dark, you try to get dressed for work in the dark. it is okay you only stubbed a toe in the dark. you arrive at work and you are wearing purple pants and a teal shirt(worst matched colors in the world) you have on one red sock and one white but that is okay cause the white sock is steadily turning red with blood from your stubbed toe. you sit at your desk (you can hear people whispering about you) and you feel great cause the little snake is destressing.
now lets say you rescue a large snake....same scenario...perfect cage, 100s spent on rodent pro. you get the large snake out of the pillow case you bring it home in. the snake is stressed and takes a good bite out of you, you are bleeding like a stuck pig! you notice this large snake has blood on its mouth! oh my god it may have broke some of its teeth off in your flesh. you scream for the wife, she is busy knitting . you tell her we must get to the vet...the snake is hurt! you tie a tourniquet around your arm to stop the bleeding, you dont want to get blood on the poor snake. on the way to the vet you are feeling faint from loss of blood but you cant go to the hospital cause this poor snake may have lost a tooth or two and has a drop of blood on its mouth. you think fast and tell the wife to stitch you up with her knitting needles and yarn on the way to the vet. the vet tells you the snake lost no teeth and it was your blood on the snakes mouth, you sigh with relief!
hot keepers you are in a league of your own. your hots save old eye caps and put them on their eye so that you have to get close enough for them to take a bite out of you. hots are smart. of course you are gonna fall for it and try to remove the fake eye cap. you get bit and blood comes out of your eyes and ears and you have difficulty breathing. you look to make sure the snake is okay and the snake is holding up the eye cap with the end of its tail like a trophy. as you are rushed to emergency in a helicopter you are thinking 'god i love that snake, it is so smart'
i need to make a thread like this every so often to prove to myself that i am still sane. that i still know that reptile keepers line of thinking is not totally right.

Re: reality check
driving to work i started picturing the man asking his wife to stitch up his arm with yarn and her knitting needles and i burst out laughing. i was stopped at a red light and the man behind me was looking at me really strange. that made me laugh harder!

Manager just means you do 5x the work and if anything goes wrong it's all your fault

.....Um, could be? It's for sure harder to walk out the door at nite and leave all the headaches behind! After doing that for years, I knew better the next time the subject came up!
