Lightbulb Wiring a grounded Ranco ETC

I asked where to find this and someone pointed me in the right direction. However it wasnt on our site and it wasnt for a grounded unit so heres my edited version. "Wiring a grounded Ranco ETC"
What you need:
  • Ranco ETC 111000
  • Philips Head Screwdriver
  • Wire Cutters
  • Wire Strippers
  • Six Outlet Power Strip(Surge protect with illuminated switch)
  • Three prong extension chord
  • 1 Wire cap
  • Razor Blade
I buy my Ranco ETCs bare from Pex Supply for $48.95+shipping heres the link:
Ranco ETC from PexSupply
First we will cut and strip all the wires.
1. On the power strip you want to cut off the male end(the part that plugs into the wall). You will then strip about 1/4" of the wire casing from each individual wire. Green, White, and Black. Set this aside
2. You will need a single section of cable about 4" long you can cut this from the excess on the extension chord. It should look like this:

3. On the extension chord you will cut off the female end.(This is the side you plug something into) Then you will do the same as far as stripping the three wires. Green, White and Black. Set this aside, now lets get the face off the Ranco.
Take the face off of the unit by loosening the 4 screws(they dont come out completely they stay in the face so you wont lose them)
When you open it there will be a cardboard flap, DO NOT REMOVE, simply bend it up and out of the way.

Loosen all the small screws in the circled area , they wont come completely out they are retained screws, just unsrew them until you feel resistance

Now feed all the wires through the hole in the bottom of the Ranco unit and pull them through enough that you can easily work with them. Once this is complete you will wire them as follows: The screws I labeled 123 and ABC just as a reference point.

Make sure all screws are tight and you have no lose wires or bare wires touching eachother. Now you can screw the Face back on and you are ready to control your temps!

You also need a small Flat Head screw driver.

Re: Wiring a grounded Ranco ETC

Does this setup use a power strip to run multiple flexwatt tapes in several vivariums or is this a single vivarium setup? Just curious if I need more sensors for the other enclosures or do the others stay relatively the same temp as the one with the temp probe? Thanks!

Re: Wiring a grounded Ranco ETC

@Rooster: If you are using this for multiple strips of heat tape they should all be used for the same size enclosures, and same temperature requirements as this will heat all tapes to equal temperature.

Hope that makes sense.
