GTP Neonate Tub Step-by-Step

Lightbulb GTP Neonate Tub Step-by-Step

Well when I started with GTPs last year I looked all over for a "How to" on the right way to set up a GTP Neonate tub. I found nothing. Sooo I figured I would show people in a step by step tutorial. This setup holds humidity well, is easy to maintain and makes the neo comfortable. So here you go:
First off get what you need:
Supplies:
  • 6.5 quart plastic shoebox tub(rubbermaid, iris, KIS, sterilite)
  • At least 2 Plastic hangers
  • 8 Zip-ties
  • Silk plants(optional)
  • Hand drill with 3/16 bit
  • Hack saw

Ok lets get started. You have your tub:

DisclaimerSpider man not included, my son helped)
Drill 3/16" holes all around the rim of the tub about an inch from the top and 1.5" between each hole. Shave the excess plastic off with a razor or Xacto

Cut the coat hangers down to size so they fit snug in the tub length-wise and side to side. I use 2 long ones and 2 short ones to make a tic-tac-toe pattern for my tubs, it makes it more stable and easier to handle. Not to mention it gives the snake options. It should fit snug about 2.5" down from the top(about in the middle of the tub)

I added a little bit of silk foliage to make it more cozy and it just looks cooler.
Its good to have a helper

Then the last thing you need is to drill a hole for your thermostat probe and viola!! I will be adding pictures of how I heat it once I get the UTH.
Thanks! Hope this helps someone in the future!!!

Re: GTP Neonate Tub Step-by-Step

Nice idea! I do have 2 questions, though::
1) Is there any way the hangers could become "un-snug"?
2) When you cut the zip-ties, how did you remove the sharp edges? In my experience, the slightest bit protruding from the holding piece can leave a painful little plastic cut

Re: GTP Neonate Tub Step-by-Step

Sorry i forgot the details.....I melt the edges of the zipties with a lighter and you can secure the hangers in the cage. Most hangers are hollow, so when you cut them there is a hole already in them. So what I have done is mark the tub where the hangers rest against the side, drill smaller holes in the tub where you marked it. Then all you need is a small finishing nail to stick through the outside into the hanger to secure it. I will post pics of this for ya

Re: GTP Neonate Tub Step-by-Step

The finishing nails:

Mark the outside with the perches in place: You may need to drill the perches a bit so the nail goes in smoothly

Slide the nails into the perches from the outside:

That will secure the perches and make them easy to remove. I only do this to the long perches. 4 nails in total.

I put it in the Caging/Housing section, I'll PM an admin to get it moved
