Downloaded Trillian from here
Cerulean Studios: Creators of Trillian and Trillian Pro Instant Messengers and install.
You will then click on Trillian – Connections – Add a new connection – IRC.
In the Server Alias box type in RTB chat or whatever you want the name to be.
In the next box down, type in “irc.sorcery.net” without the quotes.
In Nickname type in whatever name you want to go by, I used KarenC.
Then click Connect.
Click on the Trillian icon on your desktop. There are 5 different colored little buttons under your user name. Click on the first one (IRC). You will have Manage My Connections and then the Server Alias name (RTB chat or whatever you entered). Move the mouse pointer over the Server Alias name (RTB chat or whatever) and a box will pop up with Show Status Window, Connection Preferences, Close Connection, Disconnect, Reconnect, Set Status, Send a Message, Join Channel. Click Join a Channel then type “#redtailboa” without the quotes and click OK. You will then be taken to the RTB chat site.
To register and password protect your User name do the following:
/msg NickServ register password email
This means, if you want your password to be “help” and your e-mail is
crazy@hotmail.com you would type the following:
/msg NickServ register help
crazy@hotmail.com
Each time you enter the chat you will be asked for a password to confirm your identify. There are 2 ways to handle this.
1. Type it in each time by using “/msg NickServ ID help” without the quotes, remembering to substitute your password for help.
2. You can automate the process by using your Trillian console. Go to “Manage My Connections” and click on your identity. Along with the name of your connection, your user name, and other info, there are 2 boxes to the right. One says Disconnect, the other Change. Click on Change. Under the Connection tab, Perform Buffer Box, click the box that says “After successful connection to this IRC server perform the following commands.” In the box below that type in the following
/msg NickServ ID “help”
(without the quotes and use your password).
Click Save Settings. Close. Then connect, join channel (#redtailboa) and you should be ready to go.
