Hey guys,
I used this guide to make my own enclosure. Worked out great! (Reference source Striking Serpents).
"Supplies

2 sheets of 2ft by 4ft 3/4 inch melamine*
2 sheets of 1 ft by 4ft 3/4...

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100

If I were to want two hinged doors on the front that open out from the middle would I just need to put hinges on the sides or would I still need a glass track? I've never built anything before so I hope I can pull this off!

No track needed for hinged doors. You would just need a couple hinges on the sides and a latch in the middle.

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100

Yea would there be a problem building a 6 foot cage with this method?

And is there a fire hazard with the heating on the wood? I want to make one of these for my BCI, and I'll have flexwatt and a thermostat by then, but idk, seems like a fire hazard, maybe I'm just paranoid aha.

Also, as others pointed out, will it even get hot enough in the cage with just Flexwatt?

Wow what a great idea's for cages. Will be using some of the information for building a bigger enclosure for my RTB. He is only 3ft now, can't wait to get his finally home done soon.

I can't believe I only found this 4 days ago. Will be getting supplies either today or tomorrow. Even I can do this without screwing it up

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100

Though this is an old post I have an idea I was wanting to throw out and get feedback on. Take this design, or any design for that matter, and as an extra added measure use a spray in liner, ie. Rhino Liner or Liner X, or some similar type.
In looking into these spray in liners I found that they are extremely water resistant. Some are even approved for potable water which would lead me to believe that they would be toxic free.
The only potential drawback I could find is that most spray in liners are pretty textured and may be too abrasive, but some offer smooth (texture free) variants.
Any thoughts?? Or other potential hazards??

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100

This Cage design is really great, It can be modified easily to fit your needs the big debacle seems to be Heating, I currently heat my entire snake room, but i think if you wanted to go with the traditional temperature gradient set up your gonna have to splurge for some radiant heat panels. I really think with this type of material heating through from the bottom is going to eventually comprimise the woods structural integrity, so thats a risky option to me, but i may be being overly cautious. you can take this same 4x2 footprint and install a dividing wall to make two 2x2 (roughly) enclosures for smaller species like sand boas or rosy boas.
