Hey guys,
I used this guide to make my own enclosure. Worked out great! (Reference source Striking Serpents).
" Supplies
To build this cage you will need the following tools and supplies:
2 sheets of 2ft by 4ft 3/4 inch melamine*
2 sheets of 1 ft by 4ft 3/4...

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100
Thanks a bunch for this tutorial. I have made four of these so far for my boas and they work great. I do build them a bit different by putting the sides inside of the top and bottom for more support and I add plastic footing to them for the gap in the cage, but they work perfectly. I am going to be building at least four more.

to anyone who has used or designed these?
How are you preventing sagging over the long haul? 4 feet is a huge gap not to support.

The glass track/glass would prevent sagging, but if you wanted to go with swinging doors, just run a strip like on the bottom and put it on the top. It will give you enough support to prevent sagging.

Thanks for that, Toker. I'm thinking I'll try it, and add a glass door hinged at the top, that swings up from the bottom...maybe

I have built a few of these and used just a circular saw that you could get at walmart for about $30.00 and a cheap drill. You have to be acurate with your cuts, which if you use a shooter stick (2X4 guide) it shouldn't be a problem. Make sure you seal it really well as I have one that had one small spot on it that had a crack in the outer layer and it has swelled and sagged from water bowl spills. I still use the cage, but have to reseal it soon, and probably need to replace the bottom on it.

Re: How to build 4x2 enclosure for $100
Hey guys
Im not very good with plans, how would you change this to make it a 6 x 2 x 2?
I dont know what numbers to change to make it a 6 x 2 x 2
For example, how would you change this:
2 sheets of 2ft by 4ft 3/4 inch melamine*
2 sheets of 1 ft by 4ft 3/4 inch melamine*
2 sheets of 1 ft by 2 ft 3/4 inch melamine shelving*
Into 6 x 2 x 2?
And how big would the 2 peices of glass need to be for a 6 x 2 x 2?
Can somebody change this:
2 sheets of 1/4 inch glass cut to 25 inches by 8 inches
Into the dimensions I need for a 6 x 2 x 2?
Sorry, I am terrible with this stuff

If you want 6x2x2 you'll need 3 sheets of 6x2, and 2 sheets of 2x2. the glass by those measurements would have to be 2 pieces 38x16 inches if you want the same proportions.

No problem. And more than likely they dont exactly have those sizes. What you'll probably want to do is get a 6x8, cut 3 6x2 sheets out, and take the last 6x2 thats leftover and make two 2x2 pieces.

And its only like a dollar per extra cut I think, I just went there to get some melamine for a rack im building and he ended up cutting everything for free and it was almost 20 cuts.
