Okay guys. For those who are less fortunate with building things. I decided on the cage I'm building at the moment to make a tutorial.
Cage demotion: 48"x24"x18"
Total cost: In the $70's
Supplies that I had to buy:
1/2" MDF Plank - $15.59
32"x14" Window -...

For the screen cage. Just take some galvanized wire and bend a box. Secure it to a 1/2 wood frame and screw it on the ceeling.

ok and about the light? i should be able to rig a flourescent to a switch externally rather than having to open the cage to turn it on but how do i make that little cage (and attach to the roof) for the light?

Yeah you can rig it to a switch externally. Just splice the cables and thread it through the cage so then you dont have to drill an HUGE hole. Umm for the light fixure, go out and get yourself some galvanized screening. Cut off how much you need and just make a small box with it. Screw it to a wood frame so you can take it off when you need to change the bulb and that should work. YOu dont need a screen for you flouresent light. Those dont get hot at all. Well they dont get hot enough to burn the snake if it bumps it.

but how do you attach the box to the cage? or do you attach all but like the bottom and then you can detatch the bottom for the bulbs? like does your whole cage come off the top or just a section of it?

Only the light cage (with the wood frame) comes off. Let me go get a few pictures to help you out. You could make a sing door on the bottomof the wire cage so you can do it easier. THats what I should of done lol.

ok then i gotta work on how to build the doors and i should be ok after that lol

Doors are pretty easy. You have several choices for that. Swinging doors, screen doors, glass doors, etc.
Make sure you choose something where the snake cannot excape. Plexiglass should only be used on a swinging door. Not a sliding door. The snake can push on the plexi and it will pop out of the tracks. Glass is the best way to go.

well i was wanting open down or open up doors, more than likely open down doors dont know if i want 1 or 2 yet on such a small cage 1 should be fine and i can put twisting locks, x2 on each of the 3 edges

Swing down. Just think about it. Your trying to get out a snake with one hand and hold the door with the other. With it swinging down you can use both your hands to grab the snake.
1 door will be fine on smaller cages.

well that's what i meant swing down lol
now just need to build it i think i've got everything i need , i'll just make sure teh glass is firm up against the sides and those little twisting locks should be just fine

well you can use plexiglass with swing doors. Just make a wooden frame and glue the plexi to the frame. Heres a good example of this.
Just make a wood frame, then put liquid nails on the wood and press on the plexi

Okay, no problem.
Heres a few pictures of the locks and the frame.
Here you can see the 1x2 I bolted to the cage so then I can screw the window onto that 1x2 for better protection.
Heres another, and you can see Gumbo too lmao.
and for kicks, heres a head shot of Gumbo

Those look great! all of them. old bookshelf is a good way to recycle. How do you wire up the lights and all to your switch you use that you mount on the front of your cages...what kind of switch is it..and how do you wire it all up?
