course now that I look at 9 it does have an elapid look to it. But I dont know them too well, Jonhsons' mamba?

#8 is a Asian Long-tailed Lizard (Takydromus sexlineatus)
Hint for #9 one might say it's a false elapid.

Without those gill filliments, I would of said that siren almost looks like an Amphiuma means

I agree. The Amphiuma has a somewhat longer face (snout).

Grrrrrr.... the rainbow ameiva and that Asian Long Tailed look very similar.

Easier to grab as they run away.. so that you have at least a slight fighting chance at catching one as it disappears into the nearest hide

Not a stupid question at all. The tail is used to stores fat and acts as a diversion. The tail easily detaches from the body to occupy a predator as the lizard gets away.
