Are the mites generally found on Boidae the same species as those generally found on Colubridae?
How many species of mites are there that target snakes as hosts?

Ophionyssus natricis (the snake mite) is the most common so there is got to be others and they are probably different.

Over 250 species of mites have been identified on reptiles but the snake mite, Ophinonssus natricis, is the most common. This mite is often found on snakes of any species

Who cares? KILL THEM ALL!!! hehe umm I have noticed that when I have had mite outbreaks in the past...I would find them all over my boids but rarely ever find them on colubrids or pit vipers...in fact, I have never found a mite on a pit viper while in my care. I dunno if this means anything or not....but because my snake room is not organized by species, they seem to skip colubrid cages and go for the boids at times of outbreak however short lived that may be.

I find our burms will get an infestation and none of our other snakes in the same room will get an infestation.
